Department Manager, Cyber New Professionals
Job Description
Department Summary:
The Cyber Operations and Effects Innovation Center (L510) is seeking a Department Manager (DM) to lead its Cyber New Professionals (CNP) department. The CNP program is focused on recruiting, hiring, and onboarding top entry level talent; providing a variety of job experiences and rotations; rapidly developing talent including through enhanced training; providing a cohort experience for members; and creating advocate and mentorship relationships with more traditional departments. The DM will be responsible for attracting and developing all L510 members hired with two years or less of full-time experience. The DM will closely partner with other department managers in and out of L510 regarding rotations and skill needs as well as the L528 DM to operate and advance MITRE's CNP program.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The unique focuses of this department include:
- Recruiting and hiring top talent, including ~25 new graduates per year, in partnership with MITRE's Talent Acquisition team. Maintaining university relationships and supporting recruiting events to attract and identify diverse, skilled candidates.
- Mentoring and onboarding these new professionals to the workforce, MITRE, our culture, and our values.
- Establishing a strong cohort experience among the CNP members, so that members will have a personal network of peers throughout their MITRE careers.
- Exposing the new professionals to a diverse set of MITRE's capabilities and challenges across multiple portfolios and innovation centers, including through structured project rotations.
- Developing the workforce in this extremely fast-evolving field through state-of-the-art training and the establishment of mentors.
- Coordinating and partnering with advocate tech center and program division departments where members will transfer at the end of their CNP experiences.
Other responsibilities include:
- Partnering with MITRE programs and portfolios to connect and leverage solutions and entry level staff to increase mission impact. Partnering with and supporting Cyber Engagement Leads to identify appropriate needs and opportunities across MITRE's sponsor base.
- Fostering an environment of innovation, technical leadership, collaboration, camaraderie, and quality across the department's wide geography.
- Supporting, overseeing, and partnering with Group Leaders to mentor and grow members, ensure staff are aligned to high priority work that leverages their strengths, recognize staff for their accomplishments, work with under-performing staff, and lead pay and performance actions throughout the year.
- Serving as a member of the Cyber Operations and Effects Division Senior Leadership Team, helping to steer the Division's expertise and innovation to support sponsor operational cybersecurity missions.
- Contributing to the direct work program with responsibilities and contributions consummate with high performance senior technical staff.
- Defining and driving goals and objectives for the Department.
- Ensuring high technical quality of work products.
- Directly managing department budgets.
Minimum Qualifications:
- The DM must be located at a site with current L510 members and is expected to travel as necessary to other sites. The department's most significant presence is in McLean, VA.
- Experience as a direct supervisor, formally managing and growing people.
- Applicable hands-on expertise in at least one of the division's capability areas.
- Experience supporting DoD, DHS, and/or Intelligence Community sponsors and passion for supporting these missions to ensure a safer world.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively at high levels within a matrixed organization, as well as across partner and potential customer organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize, shape and follow through on new strategic partnerships and business opportunities, or to forge new opportunities with existing MITRE customers.
- Proven track record of servant leadership with demonstrated experience leading programs and mentoring people.
- Applicants must have the ability to attain a Top Secret clearance. An active SCI with current polygraph is preferred. The selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar field, and 15 years of related experience.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:
$189,500 - $237,000 - $284,500 Annual
