Design Director for Sora Union

ABOUT THIS ROLE

This is a leadership role in the design vertical of Sora Union. As the Design Director, you will lead the business development of Sora Union’s design services, growing, managing and mentoring the design teams, as well as being a key stakeholder in shaping the strategic direction of the design vertical.

We’re looking for someone who is a passionate design professional, has both design leadership and entrepreneurial mindset, has global background and experiences, and is excited to contribute to the culture and philosophy of an early-stage distributed company.

English communication, both internally and externally, is key for this position, so we require Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) C1-2 for this role.

YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

• Business development: leading the go-to-market and customer success strategies and operations of the design vertical, in collaboration with the management team at Sora Union.
• Growing the team: recruiting, hiring and retaining multi-disciplinary global design teams, while creating an inclusive, cross-cultural environment to optimize performance.
• Managing the team: managing, mentoring, and inspiring across all the teams of design managers and designers, as well as providing professional and upskilling guidance for teammates’ growth and development.
• Strategic direction: contributing to the strategy of shaping the direction of the design vertical, such as future areas of design to launch business, productization of internal workflow and skill-mapping, etc.

YOU’LL BRING TO THE TEAM

• Passion in design: you are deeply passionate about design, have a solid understanding of design strategies, principles, and models, and can paint a long-term vision of both the design world & a design business.
• Design leadership: you are a skilled, experienced, and influential design leader at top-tier firms, and comfortable leading the various aspects of design such as brand and product/UX.
• Entrepreneurship: you focus on possibilities and not obstacles, can roll up your sleeves, and can balance ambiguity, fast iterative sprints, business awareness, technology, and organizational agility.
• Global experiences: you have studied or worked across different geographies around the world, and have been successful in collaborating with and motivating teammates from different cultural backgrounds.
• Distributed work culture: you are an excellent communicator and collaborator with experience of managing distributed teams and can bring the best out of your colleagues when not physically together.

The Design Director role is a full-time, initially 6-month contract position, and we intend to convert it to a full-time employment relationship. This role is a distributed position and can be based in any location.
