The Daily Beast is looking for a skilled Design Director to lead visuals on the Marketing team with the creation, conception, and execution of design assets across brand marketing initiatives and advertiser campaigns. The ideal candidate should:
- Have the skills, perspective, and confidence to lead Design – including building internal relationships, collaborating with non-design peers, developing and defending a strong design aesthetic
- Think in systems – make design choices that are scalable across diverse expressions of the Daily Beast brand
- Think user-first, have a bold design perspective, and look for the best approach to tell a story.
- Love digging into typography and trying new things, while keeping with the design principles of the brand.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy receiving feedback, and understand the media landscape.
This role sits on the Marketing team and reports to the VP of Marketing. Please include a link to an online or PDF portfolio with your application.
 Responsibilities:
- Manage, mentor, and collaborate with junior designers
- Assign work and ensure timely delivery across design team. Create timelines to manage expectations with stakeholders on larger projects.
- Grow and enforce consistent Daily Beast design principles across many expressions of the brand, including presentation decks, subscription comms, podcast promotions, editorial franchises, newsletters, social media, events, and more
- Develop flexible templates for use by non-design staff; manage our library of resources to ensure they’re effective, comprehensive, on-brand, and fresh
- Create mocks and decks for advertiser and marketing presentations
- Strategize and facilitate the execution of the visual elements within pre-sale, post-sale, internal marketing, and external marketing materials
- Art direct cross-platform advertiser campaigns through design, photo-editing, data visualization, and quality management
- Confidently manage projects from start to finish, incorporating stakeholder feedback
- Develop and enforce brand style guide and best practices across all materials
- Effectively communicate with internal teams and occasionally external clients
Required Skills/Experience:
- 5+ years of design experience
- Degree in graphic design or other related major or equivalent experience
- Proficient in Keynote and Adobe Suite: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, XD
- A portfolio showcasing sound design aesthetic with a solid understanding of typography, composition, and grids.
- Experience designing logos, brand guidelines, and creating other visual identity assets
- Able to provide clear rationale for design choices to educate non-design stakeholders
- Experience leading multi-platform design projects
- Able to identify and seize upon opportunities for advancing the visual identity of a brand
- Self-learning, able to learn new tools quickly and work in a fast-paced, autonomous work environment
 Ideal candidates have experience:
- People managing
- Motion Graphics
- Social Media Design
- Working with Ceros or an alternate interactive content platform
- Navigating and managing Asana to track and assign projects
- Understanding the media landscape and show a passion for news, technology, and content
What else?
Currently and for the foreseeable future, this role is hybrid, with an expectation of 1-2 days per week in our NYC HQ. The pay range for this position is: $75,000 - $95,000 per year. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and other factors. The range listed is just one component of The Daily Beast’s total compensation package. The Daily Beast is a globally recognized publication at IAC HQ in New York City.
