Design Drafter

Position Summary

The Design Drafter will be responsible for preparing electronic working plans, technical and shop drawings for various architectural projects from preliminary concepts, sketches, calculations, specification sheets and other data. This role uses CAD software to create 2-D sketches, 3-D drawings or 3-D printing objects. The Design Drafter will review plans and confer with internal stakeholders to meet project specifications, complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets.

Responsibilities• Create and maintain standard AutoCAD drawing library based on Engineering's drawings and/or direction• Oversee Solidworks CAD library by ensuring drawing standards are maintained and PDM system is functioning correctly• Create and maintain Technical Data sheets• Create and maintain Installation Instructions• Create and maintain Guide Spec• Ensure all documents and drawings follow file name and folder structure standards• Ensure all documents and drawings follow format and CAD standards• Coordinate with Marketing to ensure website drawings and documents are up-to-date• Create drawings and/or documents for Engineers as needed• Assist Engineers with mock-ups and testing• Responsible for administration of ECO process• Perform research and other tasks in support of engineering as assigned by supervisor• Revise plans or schematics based on feedback from Engineers or clients• Perform other duties as needed

Knowledge & Skills• Knowledge of Drafting standards and best practices• Technologically savvy, proficient with 3D modeling tools, i.e. AutoCAD and Solidworks, and in MS Office suite, with the ability to learn and utilize industry software• Ability to read architectural and engineering drawings• Familiarity with the commercial construction industry, including terminology and construction materials and methods• Basic knowledge of project management• Strong math skills • Ability to communicate professionally, verbally and in writing, with team members and customers• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to effectively meet deadlines• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team

Experience• 1-3 years of hands-on drafting/design experience • 1 or more years of experience in a role where reading blueprints was a requirement • 1 or more years of AutoCAD experience required, Solidworks preferred

Education• High school diploma or equivalent required• Certification or 2-year degree in Drafting or similar field of study preferred

Other Requirements• Physical - This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
