Design Engineer

We’re Looking For A(n): The Design Engineer will report to the Creative/UX Director as a member of the design team, and will receive daily tasks and assignments from various design teammates and project managers.  This role will function as a bridge between our visual designers, our in-house development team, and our Digital Acquisition Marketers. The Design Engineer will produce Web pages in Wordpress, and design and optimize graphics for emails, landing pages, and online marketing campaigns.  

The Design Engineer will contribute to nearly 20 high-performing, high-traffic direct-to-consumer e-commerce websites and contribute to a wide variety of visual and interaction design aspects for all desktop, tablet, and mobile platforms.  Further, the Design Engineer will eventually support A/B split tests, usability tests, UX research.

Location: Woodland Hills, CA (Hybrid)

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Produce and manage pages, content, and functionality in the Wordpress environment.
• Work closely with the Creative Director, visual designers, digital acquisition marketing specialists, brand managers, and engineers to define interface and user requirements.
• Produce (and sometimes design from scratch) Web landing pages, emails, banners, and online marketing campaigns.
• Translate UI features and experiences from visual designers and help implement from initial concept through testing and launch.
• Work with visual designers on new approaches to interface and UX problems, and convey these designs in the form of final Sketch and Photoshop files and InVision prototypes.
• A/B test various design ideas
• Work with Creative/UX Director and/or a UX researcher to conduct usability tests, process observations, and implement recommendations
• Coordinate efforts with backend developers and marketers (in-house and off-site) for e-commerce functionality

Preferred Qualifications (Note: These are preferred and not required. We strongly encourage you to apply even if you don’t tick ALL of these boxes.):

• WordPress and the Elementor web page building plugin
• Woocommerce and general understanding of ecommerce principles
• Basic HTML and CSS skills
• Experience designing high-fidelity graphic assets in Photoshop, Sketch, InVision, etc.  Figma okay.
• Knowledge of Web graphics compression and page optimization
• Ability to design and prototype UI for mobile-first Web applications
• Eye for design and UX consistency across desktop and mobile
• Great attitude

• Can be concurrent    
  
• 4+ years of Wordpress experience including page building, site maintenance, and working with various plugins and extensions including Woocommerce
  
• 3+ years of web graphics production experience
  
• 3+ years graphic design
  
• 2+ years of experience designing interfaces for mobile and desktop
  
• Basic understanding of JavaScript and Web animation
• Experience with A/B Test, lead capture and landing pages
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Bachelor's degree in art, design or related field (preferred)
• UX Design-specific instruction, i.e., UCLA Extension, General Assembly, etc. (preferred license) 

$68,900-$91,900, annual & monthly KPI bonus potential, depending upon experience
