As a Design Engineer at Cannondale, you will be responsible for developing bike frames and components from concept to mass production using 3D modeling and simulation software. In this role, you will use knowledge of mechanical engineering to determine the ideal design, material, and manufacturing processes. You will have the opportunity to work closely with suppliers to bring tested products to market on time, in budget, while meeting the product specification brief. This is your chance to help Cannondale create the perfect ride!  **This role is based in our Wilton, CT office and we work in a hybrid environment in the office Tuesday-Thursday, working from home on Mondays and Fridays. 

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Work collaboratively with Industrial Design, Product Management, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Project Management, and suppliers to meet time, quality, and budget commitments
  • Design composite and alloy bicycle frames and components using 3D modeling software
  • Employ the use of lightweight alloy, plastic, and composite materials and manufacturing processes in applications pertaining to bicycle component design
  • Create 2D drawings with proper inspection dimensions and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Determine the ideal manufacturing process to meet quality standards, price targets and timelines
  • Create qualification test plans that meet international, legal, and CSG standards; troubleshoot testing failures and modify designs accordingly
  • Use computational analysis tools (FEA) to refine and optimize engineering design to ensure testing success while pushing the boundaries on lightweight design and performance
  • Perform research as needed to support new, innovative designs and/or processes
  • Design and develop proof-of-concepts and prototypes
  • Travel as needed to support product development and testing
  • Follow internal controls and company policies as set by company and job function

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
  • 2+ years’ experience engineering consumer product
  • Passion for cycling
  • Experience with tube forming processes, forging, gravity casting, plastic injection molding
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to solve complex packaging, assembly, and mechanism problems
  • Superior knowledge of bicycle products and their assembly
  • Fluency in 2D and 3D design software (SolidWorks) with strong surfacing ability
  • Finite Element Analysis skills to analyze Aluminum structures and assemblies
  • High level of self-motivation and ability to handle several concurrent projects
  • Excellent communication skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Work in versatile international teams
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle for transport of employees and equipment to off-site locations
  • English language skills
  • No travel restrictions with the ability to travel internationally
