Design Engineer

At Xata we’re on a mission to radically simplify the way developers work with data with our Postgres database platform.

We make managing database infrastructure easy giving developers all the functionality their application needs to evolve at scale.

Modern applications are complex. We are building a Postgres Database Platform that augments PostgreSQL with the functionality modern applications need at scale.

In every feature we build, we optimize for developer experience that will ultimately reduce our customers time to market or dramatically simplify hard architectural problems at scale. Our application is highly intuitive and is great for data collaboration with the entire team.

You will join our design team, responsible for our product UI, Marketing website, marketing assets, and our baby design system.

• Be an active contributor to our website, core product, and our very early-stage design system. We normally contribute our designs with code. All our code is in a monorepo.
• Contribute to our growing set of open-source projects, like starters, make coding tutorials look good.
• Collaborate in multifunctional project teams (with frontend engineers, marketing, PM) to create new features or improve existing ones. Optionally lead such projects.
• Design in Figma
• Help the marketing team with design assets.

• You are a self-starter, that can take responsibility.
• You know how to code from motion design to great UI
• You have a spirit to work from a marketing website to product dashboards
• Good CSS level.
• Use of Design systems (Chakra UI, Tailwind)
• Comfortable working with Git and GitHub
• Significant experience with Figma
• A sharp eye for aesthetics.

• Engineering skills. Good coding expertise is a big plus, basic knowledge of APIs, HTML, CSS, JavaScript (React), A11y, would be a bonus. Most Xata employees, including founders, managers, and designers, can code.
• Basic data visualization skills (you know what is the right chart to show your data)
• Any experience in databases (MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB). Yep, you built something once with a database.
• Experience working on open-source projects
• Interest in the startup world, you’re a shipper!
• Experience launching your own products is a bonus. We’re always having ideas to ship open-source projects.
• Interest in design systems or system design thinking.
• Basic Illustration skills (we do everything in Figma no Illustrator and complex things).
