Design Engineer IV - Thru-Tubing

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position is for a Thru Tubing Engineer that will work for the Intervention Group at our Air Center facility. The primary tools that the individual will work with are Mud Motors, Agitators, and various vibration producing tools. This role will be highly dependent on the use of various FEA and CFD software packages (SolidWorks, ANSYS, Abaqus) to analyze these systems. Some previous knowledge in Downhole tool design is beneficial but not required. This candidate will be responsible for Product Development and Support for their immediate group but will also be required to participate in peer reviews at the facility on an as needed basis. With regards to Product Support it will include creating new designs, making modifications to existing designs, and being technical support for existing designs in our production and operation facilities.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop new technology
• Analyze and recommend possible modifications to existing designs
• Participate in peer design reviews
• Implement the use of FEA/CFD software for analysis where appropriate
• Have a strong understanding in common FEA/CFD software (Solidworks, ANSYS, Abaqus)
• Adequately communicate with the corporate FEA team on high level analysis
• Perform engineering calculations related to a specific design or project
• Complete assignments received from supervisor using established design tools and procedures
• Develop accurate and complete documentation of data and projects in a timely manner
• Create complete detailed drawing packages utilizing accepted GD&T standards
• Always demonstrate sound engineering decision making
• Complete Engineering Change Orders when required following prescribed NOV procedures
• Manage projects using NOV's structured Engineering Management System
• Collaborate with all downhole groups to manage projects from concept through completion
• Work well with other team members and groups
• Assist with the shop assembly and testing of tools as required
• Must be willing to occasionally travel as required
• Must have a commitment to HSE and risk management in everything that they do
• All other duties as assigned by Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors or Master's in Mechanical Engineering Degree
• Minimum 3+ years of experience with Downhole Tools or relevant experience preferred
• Minimum 5+ years of finite element analysis experience (7 - 10 years preferred)
