Job Description

Design Lead - Remote within the US or In Office (PA, CA, UT)

As a lead designer at Nav, you’ll be responsible for end to end customer experiences in our mobile and web products. You’ll be working directly with our Financial Health team on building tools that guide small business owners along in their financial journeys. You’re the type of product designer who is motivated to solve complex problems and can deliver beautiful solutions when faced with ambiguity. Ideally, your skillset includes rapid ideation, full feature delivery, user research, and strategic influence as a complete way to build high quality products. This role reports directly into the VP of Design.
Nav is democratizing small business financing. In other words, we give small business owners access and control. Yes, this challenges the norm, but it means working with curious, purpose driven, dedicated, and inquisitively smart people who push themselves, our company and the community to the next level (and every level after that). We are the people behind the tech. And when it’s good, we look for better. We don’t over think the value we bring nor spend time trying to revamp mantras. We also do not come up with some crafty way to tell you who we are and what we offer. We are Nav! Here, you’ll gain a wealth of experience, learn the tricks of the trade, and work with winners. All companies say people are connected to their mission but in our case our mission and our people are one – it is a way of being not just a cause you are committed to. And since 2013, Nav has holistically and organically developed its own ideology because Nav can only be Nav.

Leadership at Nav:

  • A business owner’s mindset. You will operate with a high level of autonomy with full accountability for the success of your objectives. You are comfortable and confident in influencing your stakeholders, cross-functional peers, and executives by building relationships and using insights. Your strong collaborative approach results in alignment and relentless execution
  • You understand our entire business, our customers, think about the future of the company, anticipate and identify complex challenges, connect dots, identify interdependencies, and proactively resolve multiple issues at once. Your relentless spirit stays laser-focused on the core of a problem and takes a creative problem-solving approach that always looks through the lens of cross-departmental impact and/or from a company level
  • You co-create the future by coupling your healthy dissatisfaction with the status quo with your deep industry knowledge to focus on what could be and what's possible and best for Nav
  • Understanding that we are stronger together, the company vision and mission is your North Star as you inspire, lead and set direction for your peers and function. You coach other leaders, excel at developing employees across the company, and foster an inclusive environment that is welcoming to all

Design Leadership at Nav:

  • Our design team is focused on creating world-class experiences for our customers
  • You have natural instinct to tackle large, complex problems head-on, and a tendency towards action
  • You have proven success designing and shipping high-quality, impactful, end-to-end experiences as a design lead that leads to meaningful and measurable outcomes for both customers and our business
  • Your impact will be seen at a granular level, designing flows and experiences to improve our products, providing feedback for your team’s in-flight design work, as well as at highly strategic product levels where you shape the vision and strategy of your product area
  • You’ll mentor designers to grow in their craft and develop their own influence within the organization, while also partnering with product, engineering, and data leaders
  • Your design leadership results in shipping high-quality, impactful, end-to-end experiences that lead to impactful outcomes for our customers and our business
  • You have an innate intellectual curiosity to understand the “why” behind how users are using the product and teach others to have the same
  • You ask the right questions and make an effort to understand data and customer research in order to deeply understand what the user needs and identify the problems worth solving
  • You work closely with product team members to build a strategy to align those problems with business value

Key Projects to tackle:

  • The future vision of the first-party experience at Nav
  • Highly engaging mobile experience for all of Nav

The impact you’ve had in the past:

  • Influence. Strong use of storytelling skills to bring people from diverse perspectives and levels, including senior executives, in the organization to see what you see and drive progress and results
  • Your interest in modern financial tools for customers and businesses, and vital perspective on key opportunities have resulted in innovative improvement in a fast-paced, growing company
  • You have turned complex problems into simple and engaging customer experiences for  iPhone, Android, Mobile, Web, and other surfaces
  • You frequently demonstrate strong self-management and collaboration skills
  • You have developed Information architecture, interaction models, customer flows, schematics, and visual design for products and services
  • Helped bring designs to life to customers that follow an iterative design process that includes accepting and acting on feedback
  • Customer-centric. You have been the voice of the customer’s needs by spending time with customers, customer insights, and customer support teams to synthesize their feedback and market trends. You have conducted user research or usability tests, and utilized metrics to fine-tune designs
  • Establishing systems and processes to help the team make the most out of relevant design tools including Figma

More about Nav

Inclusion at Nav:

At Nav, we celebrate what makes our employees unique because the businesses we serve are progressively diverse and distinctly original. Navericks are diverse, side hustlers, immigrants, veterans, queer, and we push generational boundaries. We are college dropouts, PhDs, special needs parents, allies, pet owners and community leaders. Navericks are human. We are committed to upholding a safe, supportive environment where everyone matters. We are committed to making a better future for all of us. We have created a workplace where people of all backgrounds can express their identities authentically. To put it simply, we want you to be proud to be you.

Our Compensation Philosophy is simple but powerful:

At Nav, we are transparent about our total rewards, including pay, across all levels and roles. We believe great, enduring relationships are grounded in trust and transparency. Compensation shouldn’t be a distraction, and employees should understand how pay and career advancement decisions are made. Providing equal pay for equal work is table stakes for being a great place to work. Gender and ethnic inequity should only be something that our children read about in history books. We believe providing Navricks with company ownership, competitive pay, and a range of meaningful benefits is the start of creating a culture where people want to give the best they’ve got — not because they’re simply making money, but because they’ve fallen in love with our vision, mission, values, and team.

During the interview process, your recruiter will be explaining how our rubrics work across all of our total rewards ( base, equity, bonus, perks, and benefit) offerings. The base salary for this role is targeted between $160,000 - $190,000 per year. Final offer amount is determined by your proficiencies within this level.

Our impact on you:

Competitive Pay. Company Ownership. Unlimited Vacation. Benefits Day One. 6 Weeks Paid Parental Leave. Work From Anywhere (yes we were distributed before it was cool). Flexible Work Arrangements. Free Telehealth and Telemental Health For All Employees. Employee Networking and Events. Community Network Groups (women’s, PRIDE, culture). Meaningful Perks and Rewards. Learning and Development Opportunities. Pet Insurance.

A Naverick’s DNA:

  • We look at the future and say “why not”; we see possibilities where others see problems or routines. We show the way ahead and are committed to achieving ambitious goals.
  • We practice straight talk and listen generously to each other with empathy. We value different opinions and point of views. We ensure that we connect outside as well as inside to learn from others and inspire each other.
  • We hold ourselves accountable for delivering results. We choose to not to be a victim of circumstance. We make decisions & take responsibility so that we can act & support each other, rather than adopting defensive, and “finger pointing” behaviors.
  • As leaders we motivate & engage our teams to undertake beyond what they originally thought possible, by developing our teams & creating the conditions for people to grow and empower themselves through enabling & coaching.
