The Opportunity
Design Team Lead oversees and takes responsibility for successful delivery of design work. The DTL will help build and lead the growing team to produce high quality products and deliverables. This role will work closely with the Head of Product Design to ensure the design team has an empowering, collaborative, purpose-driven, learning culture. This position includes team management as well as hands-on creative leadership.
- Adhere to Berkadia’s policies and exhibit proficiency and understanding of Berkadia’s Values and position-specific skills.
- Incredible visual design chops with proficiency in typography, desktop/mobile UI, color, layout, iconography, and aesthetic sense and how these elements impact product function
- Possess a strong understanding of usability and user experience principles
- Experience representing work to a broader product team and other leaders, clearly and succinctly articulating the goals and concepts
- Experience leading product direction and strategic thinking while developing product goals, identifying opportunities, and making decisions based on the impact to people and the company
- Excellent attention to detail, meticulous and diligent
- Strong knowledge of the industry and market and emerging tech trends
What you'll need to be successful in this role
- Ability to quickly understand, analyze, and respond design problems from product managers, product owners and leadership.
- Provide daily oversight of the team’s design work guide the team in direction, style, and methodology.
- Establish, nurture and evolve a design culture that aligns to design team principles and values.
- Ensure the completeness and quality of work from the design team.
- Design and specify user interfaces and information architecture using participatory and iterative design. techniques, including observational studies, customer interviews, usability testing, and other forms of discovery.
- Produce design specifications, personas, storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts, wireframes, design prototypes, and design specifications.
- Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually.
- Work closely with development teams to ensure that design specifications are implemented. Be able to extend high-level design to a granular level of detail and comprehensiveness, resolve edge cases, provide documentation, and coordinate asset generation in collaboration with the design system team.
- Provide thoughtful leadership and communicate clarity of vision and expectations.
- Coordinate work, guide and facilitate the design process throughout the project, i.e. weekly status reports, design reviews, quarterly team meetings, etc.
- Drive and deliver leadership presentations and discussions of your team’s work.
- Respectfully decline the status quo and push both clients, partners, leadership and colleagues outside their comfort zones.
- Help promote an inspiring, safe and inclusive environment for the team. Grow the culture and mindset of the team to ensure they are healthy, happy, inventive, curious, and open
