The Design team is looking for a Design Technologist with experience working on design systems. This exciting role allows you to collaborate with designers, engineers, and product owners from various teams to create complex, reusable, and scalable components used across multiple platforms and consumer experiences.

You’ll report to the Chief Design Officer, and will be responsible for designing elegant platform features that empower global insurers as well as brands to distribute and service any insurance policy digitally.

You’ll need to provide deliverables under tight deadlines with input from many senior-level team-mates and external partners. Strong collaboration skills are a must, as well as coolness under pressure, problem solving, attention to detail, and the ability quickly pivot and embrace rapid innovation. The work requires a dedicated individual who champions our high standards and design aesthetic.

What you'll be doing:

• Act as the bridge between Design and Engineering through your ability to build scalable, code-based design systems
• Design and build innovative patterns and systems that are durable, repeatable and set a new standard for craft across the company
• Understand and contribute to aspects of Sure’s software development process, typically as a builder and expander of our code-based design systems. Familiarity with the processes of building architecture, specification reviews, automated testing, implementation, code reviews, debugging, and documentation
• Contribute to the creation and ideation of delightful consumer experiences for purchasing and managing insurance products, connecting our client’s business with their intended audience
• Design, support, and ship key parts of the core Sure platform product
• Manage and expand our best-in-class proprietary design systems
• Resolve bug fixes and troubleshoot incidents from our partners and customers
• Help put tools, processes, and documentation in place to improve our developer experience

We're looking for a design techologist with a toolkit including:

• Knowledge of latest best practices in Figma, React, and CSS (Tailwind and Storybook a plus)
• Knowledge of visual and web accessibility, familiar with WCAG 2.1 guidelines
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively explain technical concepts in a clear and concise way
• Ability to empathize with both designers and engineers
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and pivot when priorities shift
• Ability to assist other teams with design and/or frontend development when needed
• Flexible and comfortable with ambiguity and change during a project
• An open mind to learn, collaborate, and educate others
• Ability to find opportunities for inclusive design and easily identifies when improvements to design and/or design processes are needed

3+ years professional experience with:

• Mobile and responsive web applications, preferably at an agency or in-house design team for a product-driven business
• Design systems
• Building component libraries in React and Javascript (Typescript a plus)
• Writing semantic/accessible HTML and maintainable/scalable CSS (preprocessors a plus)

A portfolio of work showcasing excellence in:

• Interaction design, visual design, systems thinking, and problem solving
• Frontend development building highly complex and scalable interactive user interfaces
