Designer

Summary:

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is looking for an ambitious designer to join our award-winning creative team and work firsthand to develop dynamic and creative solutions in a wide array of formats for various projects. This exciting role will work on projects ranging from printed reports, presentations for media briefings, developing artwork for publications, conceptualizing social media campaigns around events and organizational values, data visualization and digital content.  

Primary Job Functions:

• Designs a variety of assets including information graphics, web and social media assets, legal demonstratives and marketing mailings and communications for the development team; 
• Collaborates within the creative team to support the execution of print and digital campaigns, including brainstorming, strategizing and critique;
• Designs publications (reports, forms, flyers, presentations); prepares, reviews, edits and responds to feedback;
• Coordinates and manages special projects with internal stakeholders;
• Collaborates with external creative partners including illustrators, photographers and vendors; and directs their contributions towards the shared mission; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications –

Education and Related Work Experience:

• Minimum of three years of graphic design experience for print and digital assets;
• Demonstrated familiarity in UX/UI design and front-end web development capabilities (CSS, HTML, etc.);
• Proven experience working within the various Adobe Creative Suite programs; and
• High school diploma or GED.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Exceptional visual sensibility;
• Excellent at concept and storyboarding design;
• Knowledge and skilled in graphic design terminology, technology, typography, software and technique;
• Ability to approach projects and work with a strategic mindset and organizational skills;
• Skilled in persuasive verbal and written communication and excellent presentation skills;
• Proven ability to adapt to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer service and response;
• Demonstrated ability to receive feedback and achieve high performance goals;
• Forward looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and identifies problems and proposes solutions;
• Ability to maintain respect and confidentiality; 
• Commitment to ideals of justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion; and
• Commitment to fostering an anti-racist work culture and to anti-racist principles and learning.

Compensation:  

This is an exempt role and the minimum starting salary is $52,621 annually.  Salary will be commensurate with experience. 

Work Designation:

This role has the following work designation options: 

• Local Remote:  Will work remotely, but is expected to attend work-related activities that occur at the SPLC offices or in the states in which the SPLC operates.
• Telework:  Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.

Other Special Considerations:

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
