Job Description

ENGIE Distributed Solar and Storage (an ENGIE North America company) is looking for an experienced Designer to manage our Design team in our Engineering and Delivery team. We are looking for highly motivated individuals that enjoy being challenged each day. This position represents the authority for drawing standards for all Engineering drawing deliverables within the Distributed Solar and Storage team. The candidate who fills this position should be confident in their decision-making abilities and have enough experience to back up their logic. This person will be accountable for all aspects of Design, Electrical ,Civil, and Structural, for rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV and battery energy storage installations throughout the US. This individual's work will be provided to installation contractors, utilities, permitting authorities, clients, and system owners as part of the complete design of renewable energy assets. This individual will collaborate with various departments on requests to develop, design, and optimize the projects.

This position reports to the Director of Engineering & Delivery, Engineering & Delivery and will sit in Chicago, IL. This position is open to a hybrid scheduled of both in-office and work-from-home days.

What you'll do:

  • Accountable for creation and maintenance of drawing standards for rooftop, ground mounted, and carport solar projects and BESS projects
  • Maintain drafting processes and support continuous improvement of drawing standards across the Engineering team
  • Responsible for the origination and review of ground mount, rooftop, and carport PV layouts
  • Perform quality control for all internally and externally produced drawings
  • Capable of overseeing design of numerous projects simultaneously
  • Remain up to date on new technologies and regulatory conditions including codes, industry standards, best practices, customer requirements, and other relevant standards
  • Review system drawing sets for purposes of bidding, permitting, and construction in accordance with ENGIE design standards, IBC, NEC, IEEE and any other local codes
  • Provide leadership, guidance, instruction, and mentorship to less experienced designers
  • Assist other teams such as Pre-Construction and Project Delivery as needed

What you'll bring:

  • A minimum of a four (4) year degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Engineering or Architecture
  • A minimum of sev en (7) years experience in a Designer role
  • Preferred experience in Renewable Energy site design
  • Expert level proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Experience within the energy industry, preferably with Distribution Systems
  • Ability to create, read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Shows a bias for action and continuous improvement. Takes ownership
  • Thrives in a team environment and assists others as needed
  • Must hold a valid driver's license
  • Travel required (up to 25%)

  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements and handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to use company issued computer and travel to conduct site visits
  • Capable of using proper lifting procedures or equipment usage needed when involved in lifting up to 50 lbs

  • Salary Range: $102,630-$171,380 USD annually
  • Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
  • In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan
