Summary
This National Guard position is for a DETAILED INSPECTOR GENERAL, Position Description Number NGT5233P01and is part of JFHQ.
Permanent position.
This is a National Guard Title 5 Excepted Service position. Concurrently advertised as Title 32, only one will be filled.

Conditions of Employment
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
- Employee must have moral attributes and personal traits that demonstrate adherence to Army and Air Force Values, and the Army Civilian Corps Creed.
- Employee must have no record of criminal punishment except for minor offenses or derogatory information contained in IG records as screened by the USAIGA and SAF-IG.
- Complete the Department of the Army Inspector General Refresher training as required by The Inspector General of the Army, and the Air Force Worldwide Training Conferences as required for refresher training.
- Employee will be required to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance. A minimum of an interim secret security clearance is required before an individual can perform any IG functions or have access to IG records.
- Irregular and overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
- Position requires travel to support South Dakota National Guard units or IG functions.
- This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
- This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
- Applicants referred will be subject to a database check against the Army Inspector General Action Request (IGARS) and the Air Force Complaints Resolution (ACTS) databases.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a separate sheet(s) addressing the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) and how they relate to work experience, education or training.
- Knowledge of organization/activity, NGB/DA/DAF/DOD, organizational structures, and their functional interrelationships.
- Knowledge of established management principles and operating procedures plus skill in applying fact-finding and investigative techniques to gather clear-cut factual evidence of waste and abuse, or compliance with regulations.
- Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues/inspections or investigations/inquiries concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations (discipline, efficiency, morale, economy, training and readiness) carried out by administrative or professional personnel, or substantive administrative support functions (i.e., internal activities or functions such as supply, budget, procurement, or personnel which serve to facilitate line or program operations).
- Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, policies, and precedents which affect the use of program and related support resources (people, money, or equipment) in the area studied.
- Knowledge of the major issues, program goals and objectives, work processes, and administrative operations of the activity.
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative techniques for analyzing and measuring the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of administrative and technical programs, along with knowledge of the mission, organization, and work processes of programs throughout a military command, complex multi-mission JFHQ (St), or equivalent, and the relationships of administrative support activities (e.g., data processing accounting, budget) to such missions.
- Knowledge in conducting inspections, inquires, investigations, analyzing findings, and making recommendations on substantive operating programs; (e.g., weapons testing or commodity management).
- Knowledge and skill in preparing project papers and staffs reports, organizing and delivering briefings to managers for understanding and acceptance of findings and recommendations.
- Knowledge of managing an internal office budget.
