Developer - Investment Operations and Research
Job Description
Viking Global Investors LP is a global investment firm founded in 1999. We manage more than $37 billion of capital for our investors across long/short, long-only, and liquid/illiquid strategies. We have approximately 240 employees and offices in Greenwich, New York, Hong Kong, London, and San Francisco.
JOB FUNCTION
The Developer will work closely with a team of engineers, business analysts, and business users, with responsibility for supporting our systems in Investment Operations and Research domains.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Join a team of five engineers focused on development & maintenance of apps developed for Investment Operations and Research domains
- Develop, deploy, and support .NET Core and Python applications with Angular/React front ends to supplement vendor platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS
A successful candidate must have:
- 3+ years of experience building software in an object-oriented language (C# preferred)/dynamic language (JavaScript/Python)/functional languages(F#/OCaml/Haskell)
- Strong communications skills, a great attitude, and the ability to build strong working relationships
- Experience with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, React, NodeJS, Typescript, etc.)
- Proficiency in relational database technologies (SQL Server preferred)
- Priority on clean code and automated tests
- Solid computer science fundamentals with awareness of fundamental data structures and usage techniques
- Comfort working independently through complexity in a fast-paced environment
The ideal candidate may also have:
- Experience with any one of the BI technologies (Tableau/Micro strategy/Power BI)
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for keeping up with new tools and techniques
- Experience working in a buy-side asset manager or other financial services firm
- Experience in Investment research systems development and support
- Understanding of software design patterns and common anti-patterns
- Awareness of domain driven design strategy and philosophy
The base salary range for this position in New York City is $125,000-$250,000. In addition to base salary, Viking employees may be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, 100% coverage of medical and dental premiums, and paid lunches. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be individually determined based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s skill set, experience, education, and other qualifications.
