Development Manager

Introduction
The IBM mainframe (Z Systems) is responsible for most credit card transactions and is used by the many of the top insurers banks retailers and airlines.
IBM z/OS® is an operating system with highly secure and scalable hypervisor and virtualization technology designed to run Linux® z/OS® z/VSE® and z/TPF virtual machines as well as Red Hat® OpenShift® on IBM zSystems™ and IBM LinuxONE servers. z/OS provides a highly secure and scalable environment for efficiently running critical Linux applications with support for more Linux virtual servers than any other platform in a single footprint.
The z/OS team is a worldwide team primarily located in Poughkeepsie NY with expansion plans in Bangalore India. All phases of the software life cycle are performed within this team including the design development test performance as well as supporting the product in the field with customers. Agile methodologies are used throughout the life cycle.
We are looking for qualified development manager candidates to be part of our IBM Z Systems team to help us take z/OS Test Services and Security team to the next level on the mainframe.

Your Role and Responsibilities
As an Engineering Manager you will primarily be responsible for driving the team focussed on developing/enhancing testing and supporting z/OS simplification and Modernisation Strategy for the IBM Z systems.

zOS Platform management related to network congifuration assistant Analyser and other new development related to IO configuration simplification and modernisation actitivties.

You would be expected to work closely with partner lab and development team with a joint and end-to-end ownership of the product development managing delivery schedules and assure highest quality release with maximum exploiter/customer satisfaction.

Additionally collaborate with relevant stakeholders including research development sales offering marketing teams to ensure product is amply highlighted

• End to End responsibility of product delivery and release by applying Design Thinking & Agile practices in product design development test & support
• Define work schedules and track task assignment for the team and clear roadblocks and risks to enable product delivery
• Bring in efficiencies in the process/product methodologies hiring and retaining highly talented engineers
• Work with peer Managers Product Owners Architects stakeholders etc. to share/apply best practices at increasing efficiency and showcase status of the project to senior management and Executives
• Create an environment for collaboration and high performing culture that is required to make this multi-site development team successful
• Motivate the team in applying processes and best practices in delivering great user experience and quality products for IBM’s Server Systems
• Ensure Business Compliance and Integrity is maintained across the team

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Atleast 12 years of hands-on technical IT industry experience preferably in the area of Systems product R&D
• Has led a technical team and been part of their talent & career development. Good problem solver – technical solutions as well as conflict resolution
• Familiar with Enterprise Server (Unix/Linux) Operating System (advantage if familiar with IBM Z Systems as a consumer or user)
• Familiar with tools to track project & defect progress (RQM RTC Clear Quest Best Quest github Jupyter Jira Trello etc.)
• Associated with automation including scripting (shell python perl ansible) integration into frameworks (Robot Jenkins etc.) and applied CI/CT approaches
• Adopted Agile DevOps and Design Thinking methodologies at work
• Proven ability to work effectively in a global team environment forming & managing multiple projects across geographies

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• Candidates having Systems exposure and especially with IBM Z/Mainframe Systems/zOS are preferred
