POSITION SUMMARY:
The Development Operations Specialist is part of the Development Operations Team, providing critical administrative support to the Development Department for Greenpeace Inc. and Greenpeace Fund. This position will focus on processing high-value gifts and providing a high level of service to some of our most invested donors.
The ideal candidate for the Development Operations Specialist role will be detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills. This individual will also demonstrate the ability to work independently on projects and will exercise discretion in handling confidential matters.
The Development Operations Specialist is a full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt, hybrid position, based in Washington, D.C, and is required to work in-office three days per week to open and process mail, and to send written acknowledgements. This role reports to the Development Operations Manager.
The Development Operations Specialist will be responsible for:
- Opening and processing fundraising mail, including the processing of checks for Finance and entering the data into the database.
- Working with Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Foundations Fundraising, and other fundraising teams to properly process and record high-value donations including estates, IRA distributions, Donor Advised Fund gifts, credit cards, royalties, wire transfers, stock gifts, and other kinds of gifts to Greenpeace.
- Processing all workplace giving gifts and applications.
- Sending all Major Gifts, IRA gifts, and Grant acknowledgements in a timely manner, and replacing any lost acknowledgements.
- Liaising with our Supporter Care Team on donor communication that comes in the mail, whether it be a request, complaint, information request, or donor letter of thanks and impact.
- Managing the state charitable registration process for Greenpeace and serving as the primary contact for the external administrator.
- Ensuring all state charitable registration applications are executed accurately in a timely manner. Updates all relevant contracts/budgets/etc as needed.
- Managing the Combined Federal Campaign process for Greenpeace Fund, including serving as the contact for the vendor relationship, monitoring reporting, and creating and sending donor acknowledgments.
- Working with the Development Operations Manager to process charity rating applications.
The minimum requirements for the Development Operations Specialist include:
- Minimum one year of experience working in a similar position, nonprofit organization preferred.
- Proficiency in Google Suite
- Prior experience working in a fundraising database, Salesforce preferred

- Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.

- Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects with deadline-efficiency

- Strong interest in environmental issues and an appreciation for philanthropy

The starting salary for this position is anticipated to be $57,246 to $65,800 and is commensurate with experience.
