Developmental Pediatrician / Developmental Pediatrician Section ChiefÂ

Supported by the Maternal and Child Health Services Title V Block GrantÂ
Carilion Children’s is seeking a Developmental Pediatrician or Developmental Pediatrician Section Chief to join—and help lead—our growing Child Development Clinic, a statewide resource supported by the Maternal and Child Health Services Title V Block Grant through the Virginia Department of Health.Â
This position is being recruited to support significant program growth driven by increasing regional need, expanded partnerships, and Carilion’s commitment to improving access to developmental and neurodevelopmental care for children across Virginia.Â
This role is based at Carilion Children’s Tanglewood Center, our pediatric multidisciplinary center of excellence, serving as a hub for integrated pediatric subspecialty care, therapy, and family-centered services.Â

Our program is in a purposeful growth phase, expanding capacity to meet rising demand for evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, and ongoing management of:Â
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Cerebral palsy
- Developmental delays
- NICU follow-up needs
- Complex neurodevelopmental conditions
- Behavioral and learning challenges
Carilion Children’s is western Virginia’s primary pediatric referral center, anchored by:Â
- A 60-bed NICU/intermediate nursery
- 8-bed PICU
- 24-bed pediatric inpatient unit
- Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center
- Dedicated pediatric emergency department
- 19 pediatric subspecialty clinics and robust ancillary services
Faculty appointments are available through the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM), with research opportunities in collaboration with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI) and other Virginia Tech partners.Â
Leadership Track – Section Chief OpportunityÂ
For candidates with 5+ years of experience, the Section Chief role offers an opportunity to lead during a pivotal expansion period.Â
Responsibilities include:Â
- Guiding strategic program growth
- Enhancing access and optimizing clinical operations
- Mentoring faculty, staff, and learners
- Expanding community and statewide partnerships
- Advancing quality improvement and research initiatives
As demand increases statewide, this leadership role is essential for shaping the future of developmental health services across western Virginia and beyond.Â
QualificationsÂ
- ABMS Board Certification in Pediatrics
- Fellowship in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities or Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics
- Passion for multidisciplinary, family-centered care
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
- No experience required for faculty role
- 5 years of experience required for the Section Chief role
