The Ford Product Development Team is seeking an Automation Engineer to assist teams developing embedded software in

Ford Vehicles utilizing modern processes, methods, and tools to create higher quality software more efficiently. This person

will join a team responsible for building and deploying large scale build, test and deployment pipelines in a hybrid cloud

environment while assisting teams by understanding their software development practices and creating automation and

integrations that help the teams achieve better traceability. This person will also provide input on new tooling and patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Automate everything
  • Building and setting up new development tools and infrastructure
  • Understanding the needs of stakeholders and conveying this to developers
  • Working on ways to automate and improve development and release processes
  • Testing and examining code written by others and analyzing results
  • Ensuring that systems are safe and secure against cyber-security threats
  • Identifying technical problems and developing software updates and fixes
  • Working with software developers and software engineers to ensure that development follows established

    processes and works as intended

  • Planning out projects and being involved in project management decisions

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • BSc in Computer Science, Engineering or related degree
  • 5+ years' experience as an Automation, DevOps or Site Reliability Engineer or similar software engineering role
  • 3+ years demonstrated proficient with git and git workflows
  • 3+ years' experience with Python, Bash or other scripting languages
  • 3+ years' experience with Docker, Podman, or similar virtualization technologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible or other configuration management tools
  • Working knowledge of package management systems like Pypi & Conan, and managing sharing and access

    across teams in Artifactory

  • Basic understanding of Container Orchestration tools like Kubernetes
  • Comfortable working in cloud platforms like GCP
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies; Deployment Pipelines, Configuration Management, Version

    Control, Continuous Security/Quality, and Value Stream Management

  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Problem-solving attitude
  • Collaborative team spirit
