DevOps Engineer

Where You Come In:

We are currently seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our growing team! At KCF, you will operate as part of a cross-functional squad with other engineers (Software, Hardware, DevOps, and Machine Learning). As a DevOps Engineer, you will help build and maintain KCF’s SMARTdiagnostics machine health platform, which stores and processes industrial IoT sensor data to provide analytics and insights to our users. This will help us achieve our goal of zero waste, zero downtime, and zero safety incidents for all of industry.

This role can be 100% remote-based. With our Work From Home, Work From Anywhere model, KCF employees are spread across 27 different U.S states. We advocate for owning your work - you define how you do it and where you do it.

Essential Functions:

• Implement cloud infrastructure to support application improvements, accommodate growth, and incorporate new technology.
• Work within a cross-functional squad composed of other engineers (e.g. Software), to coordinate application and infrastructure improvements
• Monitor the application and infrastructure, and address problems as they occur
• Use DevOps and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and Packer
• Perform Linux system administration tasks (e.g. security updates)
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
• Develop scripts and other automation tools to streamline operation
• Participate in occasional off-hours system maintenance activities (e.g. Software releases)
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and other KCF leadership staff

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or another related field
• 1-5 years of IT Operations and/or Software Development experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both
• Experience with Amazon AWS or other similar cloud providers
• Understanding of Amazon’s core AWS services (EC2, IAM, RDS, VPC)
• Able to use Git version control and understand Git workflows (branching and pull requests)
• Strong experience with Linux command line and system administration
• Understanding of Infrastructure as Code and Immutable Infrastructure
• Ability to develop code using higher-level languages such as Terraform HCL, Python, and Bash
• Issue tracking- able to create/update/close work tickets and update Kanban board
• Documentation- able to clearly and accurately describe systems in a central documentation repository
• Highly service-oriented disposition with aptitude in problem-solving
