Department Overview

Motorola Solutions’ Software, Mobile Video, and Cybersecurity (SMVC) organization is responsible for the development, deployment, security, and operations of Government First Responder mission-critical systems, including E911, computer aided dispatch, body-worn and mobile video infrastructure and devices, and digital evidence management systems (DEMS). These solutions are provided in both an on-premise and as-a-service fashion.
The SMVC managed services team is seeking a DevOps Engineer to join the field operations team that is dedicated to the long term management and operation of a nationwide DEMS and body worn video service for law enforcement.
Job Description

Role

As a member of the managed services team, the DevOps Engineer will work closely with software development, cloud infrastructure engineering, and field operations teams to ensure the successful deployment and maintenance of Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS) software ecosystem throughout the life of the managed services contract.

They will be responsible for developing and implementing processes for software integration and testing, ensuring that each iterative product update of the DEMS is ready for promotion into the Client’s production environment. The DevOps Engineer will also play a critical role in managing the Client’s infrastructure, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues.

Considering the client-facing aspects of the operation, the position may also assume Solution Architect elements and responsibilities over time.

Key attributes of this role include the ability to lead in a matrix organization, the ability to collaborate extensively across the organization, and the ability to manage customer engagements. 

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Govern the release cycle for new software product versions into the Client production environment.

  • Execute end-to-end integration and functional testing of multiple software products

  • Ensure successful pre-production acceptance testing for quality assurance.

  • Develop and execute test plans, report on results, and guide development teams to resolve them.

  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to define and implement DevOps processes and best practices.

  • Ensure high availability, reliability, and security of production systems.

  • Collaborate with development teams to identify and resolve performance and scalability issues.

  • Develop and implement disaster recovery plans and procedures.

  • Manage infrastructure and configuration management systems.

  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues across various application domains and platforms.

  • Knowledge and Skills

    • Must have very strong knowledge of DevOps practices, tools, and methodologies employed for end-to-end software testing and pre-production quality assurance

    • Must be knowledgeable in the installation of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues.

    • Technical knowledge of IT networking, cyber security, Active Directory, and cloud infrastructure domains.

    • Must be highly computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and G-Suite of productivity applications.

    • Must have strong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service teams.

    • Must be self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.

    • Must have strong communications and collaboration skills.

Location

Candidate may be located anywhere in the United States or Canada, and close to a major airport to enable travel to key operations locations (Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Ottawa and Toronto, Ontario) as required. Travel approximately 20% of the time.


Preferred Candidate Requirements 

  • Experience and knowledge of body worn and mobile video technologies and DEMS solutions, and their implementation and operation in law enforcement.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers" 


Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science of related field

  • 3+ years of experience in a DevOps Engineer role or similar 

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer"

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
