Job Description

As a DevOps Engineer, Infrastructure, your work will encompass day to day systems operations duties implementing, monitoring, fixing information systems and providing support for the department and organization's clients.
Starting base pay for this role is between $97,000 and $122,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, training, location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role will be eligible for a bonus as well as competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits, wellness reimbursement, life insurance, and a 401(k) with company match. We offer vacation and sick leave benefits (under a flexible time off policy in most states).
Responsibilities

  • Supports, maintains, and enhances mission-critical information systems and infrastructure, through infrastructure as code.
  • Works with development to build and enhance CI/CD pipelines.
  • Designs, develops, tests, and documents new automated solutions to improve current and new processes.
  • Programmatically creates infrastructure in AWS, leveraging Autoscaling Groups, Security Groups, Route53, S3 and IAM.
  • Reduces 3rd Party and Custom application Build, Deployment, and Configuration complexity through automated solutions.
  • Researches new technologies and best practices to create and improve new or existing processes.
  • Identifies, diagnoses, and corrects issues related to the operating systems, software, utilities, AWS environment and ancillary services via Ansible automation.
  • Performs daily system monitoring, verifies the integrity, availability and performance of the infrastructure environment, server resources, systems and key processes, reviews system and application logs, and verifies completion of scheduled jobs.
  • Deploys and maintains operating system software and third-party software utilities, systems, and services within company operational guidelines.
  • Conducts system analysis, configuration management and develops improvements for system performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Implements and maintains appropriate levels of system security.
  • Manages system backup / disaster recovery procedures; participates in disaster recovery efforts including regular testing.
  • Addresses and resolves critical system issues as needed on a 24X7 basis including notification, escalation, and coordination across the organization.
  • Assists in the support and maintenance of physical infrastructure located in the Chicago/Atlanta/Denver offices.
  • Manages and addresses incident tickets and change requests within pre- defined service level agreements.
  • Regularly communicates status of incidents and requests with customers and key stakeholders as dictated by the severity and circumstances of the incident.
  • Maintains updated documentation of all in- progress and completed projects in appropriate systems as required by team management.
  • Creates and maintains system documentation for organizational technologies, including installation, configuration, and appropriate troubleshooting steps.
  • Designs, documents, and implements automated unit-testing for a real-time configuration management system.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • 3+ years previous experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or commensurate on-the-job experience
  • Proficiency in PowerShell
  • Logging: SumoLogic or similar such as Splunk, Syslog, Graylog, Fluent, Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kabana
  • Infrastructure: AWS Cloud, NGINX, Sophos UTM, Ansible Automation Platform, Fortinet (or equivalent like Puppet, Chef or Saltstack)
  • Monitoring: Datadog, New Relic, APM
  • CI/CD: Ansible, Ansible Automation Platform, Git, GitOps, GitOps Workflows, Octopus, TeamCity
  • Services: AWS API Gateway, AWS FSx, AWS IAM, AWS Lambda , AWS S3, AWS Transfer, AWS Organizations, Apache Tomcat, Kerberos, MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, NGINX, SFTP
  • Prior experience with Public Cloud operations (AWS strongly preferred)
  • Significant experience with DNS systems including DNSSEC
  • Ability to code and script - emphatic with incremental development, testing and deployments.
    • Languages: Powershell, Python, Bash
    • Tools/Process: git, continuous-integration, continuous-deployment
    • Development philosophy: test-driven design, convention over config, dependency injection, DRY, rapid prototype, service-oriented
  • Experience with a variety of operating systems, platforms, and technologies to support a diverse environment.
    • Windows 2016/2019, Windows Active Directory, RHEL, CentOS
    • Ansible Automation (or equivalent like Puppet, Chef or SaltStack)
    • Understanding of Kubernetes and other container-based architectures
    • Terraform, or other IaC solutions
    • Administration/Configuration of firewall rules/policies and networking concepts (subnetting, packet analysis)
    • PKI and Certificate management
  • Strong grasp of automation tools
    • Ansible (or equivalent like Puppet, Chef or SaltStack)
    • GitOps/workflows, Done CI, Gradle, BuildBot, Gitlab CI
