DIAYLSIS TECHNOLOGIST CS II ST. LUKE'S
Job Description
Performs assigned patient care activities under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in accordance with established policies, procedures and guidelines set forth by OSHA, Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), Association for Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and federal, state and local regulations.
Sets up, operates, cleans and disinfects dialysis and related equipment in accordance with policy and procedures.
Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with policy.
Initiates and terminates dialysis treatments with AVF (Arteriovenous Fistula), AVG (Arteriovenous Graft), and catheters.
Monitors equipment and patient status during dialysis treatments. Documents treatment information. Reports any significant changes in patient condition to the nurse.
Monitors water quality. Collects water and dialysate samples and follows procedures related to ensuring water quality per policy. Disinfects water system. Conducts air quality testing and maintains accurate records and documentation.
Operates the flow measurement device for vascular access monitoring.
Prepares bicarbonate mixture using aseptic techniques, if applicable.
Prepares lab specimens.
Communicates with management, staff, purchasing agents and vendors regarding supply delivery and notifies center supervisor of any unusual incidents. Reports problems to the appropriate personnel.
Scheduled Hours
12 hour Days, 0.9 FTE with rotating weekend and holidays
Licenses & Certifications
Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) certification issued by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) needs to be obtained within 18 months.
Degrees
High School Graduate.
Required Functional Experience
Typically requires 1 year of experience in patient care.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Verbal and written communication skills sufficient for effective communication. Basic computer skills.
