What you will do

The Bid Solution Manager will be part of the Global Digital Solutions Pre Sale team. This team is responsible for delivering presale for Johnson Controls smart building portfolio of products and services. Also responsible for the end-to-end bid process and solutioning. In conjunction with the multiple stakeholders involved on these large complex deals, this role will be responsible for managing an opportunity from qualification through to contract award, including value proposition / strategy development, solution development, commercial considerations, partner identification, key milestones and risk management. Responsibilities include the introduction and implementation of all necessary bid procedures, governance, and processes.

The role will reach across the JCI Digital Solutions business on complex deals which will encompass highly customizable single or multiple digital solutions. This is a highly networked role that requires an ability to work under pressure and to challenging deadlines across multiple geographies and markets. It will require strong people management and commercial skills to deliver a strong, winning bid to the prospective client.

How you will do it

As part of a newly created Digital Solutions support team, your role will include:

  • Manage the end-to-end bid process.
  • Manage virtual bid teams and inputs from key stakeholders, typically engaging with sales, design, marketing, product teams, finance, commercial, legal and project management / delivery.
  • Manage and validate the solution and constraints of the technical implementation
  • Work with the Sales lead to develop a clear win strategy for each bid and ensure win themes are clear and compelling.
  • Understand and resolve complex technical, strategic and business issues.
  • Prepare and review the commercial aspects of the bid, ensuring all products / services are included in the final price to the customer.
  • Risk tracking and management throughout the bid process.
  • Contributing to the written proposal - both in terms of content and presentation (such as providing guidance around the executive summary).
  • Ensure timescales are achieved at each step of the bid process, including all internal governance, while taking the initiative in setting realistic deadlines.
  • Ensure on-time submission of complete and commercially sound bids.
  • Co-ordinate and plan all client presentations required as part of the bid submission.
  • Drive continuous improvement, through post-bid reviews, both internally and with customers.

What we look for

  • Proven ability in delivering winning, multi-million pound product or services opportunities.
  • Bachelor's Degree with a Business or Engineering focus
  • Minimum 5-10 years of consultative solution selling with strong technical aptitude
  • Experience in at least one of the following technologies: Building Management System (BMS), Cloud Computing, IoT, SaaS or PaaS
  • Ideally has a background in solution selling and experience of bid management from opportunity identification through to project delivery, and will provide valuable input into value proposition development, opportunity qualification, win strategy, commercial discussions, and solution delivery.
  • Strong EQ and advanced communications skills to negotiate solutions and resolve issues with peers, partners, and customers
  • Proven team leadership skills in office-based and virtual work environments. Must be an excellent communicator and comfortable working at CEO / Director Level (internal and external customer).
  • Will be fully conversant with the competitive marketplace.
  • Sound commercial understanding coupled with risk management skills.
  • Has the ability to manage complex, multi-worksteam opportunities.
  • Solid understanding and management of internal governance procedures.
  • APMP foundation certification (practitioner ideal).
