Digital Communications Manager

The Opportunity

In collaboration with the Director of Communications, the Digital Communications Manager is responsible for developing, managing and executing CEO’s overall digital communications strategy and visual brand identity, including paid digital marketing and maintenance of owned digital channels, such as CEO’s website and social media platforms. 

The Digital Communications Manager is an adaptive and creative leader, responsible for managing and developing the growing digital communications team. The Digital Communications Manager will oversee the team’s collection and production of extensive and high quality digital content, including video, photo, graphic design, templates, marketing materials, social media copy and assets, digital advertising and more.

This role will work with CEO’s Executive, Fund Development, Policy and Program teams to execute key strategic storytelling, media, digital marketing and fund development efforts.

Who We Are

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people with recent criminal convictions. Across the United States, over 6,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 25,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996. In 2016, CEO embarked on a 5-year strategic plan to grow to serve 9,000 participants annually. 

Who You Are

  • You have at least 3+ years of digital communications experience
  • You have at least 2+ years of management experience
  • You have expert social media and digital content creation skills
  • You have expert video and photo production experience
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • You have impeccable writing and copy-editing skills
  • You have the ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders, consultants, and story subjects to produce impactful and ethical content
  • You are an expertise with video editing and visual content production tools, including Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Canva, and Visme or similar
  • You have strong communications and project management skills, preferably using tools like Salesforce, Airtable, Monday, Asana, or similar service
  • You share a commitment to CEO’s mission and values 
  • You have strong, creative, and impactful communications product development working in collaboration with key internal and external partners.
  • You have demonstrated ability to collect, produce and edit digital communications products
  • You have strong collaboration skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders to produce and deliver impact communication content and campaigns. 
  • You have the ability to have fun, think creatively, inspire and work collaboratively with others
  • Political and criminal justice policy experience is highly desired

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Key responsibilities of the Digital Communications Manager include but are not limited to:

Digital Communications

  • Lead the development and execution of the organization’s overall digital strategy and visual brand identity
  • Lead the development and execution of CEO’s paid digital marketing strategy
  • Identify target audiences and create content tailored to engage and educate stakeholders, including program participants, donors, partner organizations, and the general public
  • Oversee the production and distribution of high-quality and error-free digital media projects and assets, including videos, photography, graphic design and marketing collateral
  • Maintain and update CEO's website, ensuring that it remains current, user-friendly, and accessible
  • Manage and collaborate with web developers and designers to implement website improvements and new features as needed
  • Oversee the management of CEO’s website and social media channels, including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn
  • Manage the organization’s digital content calendar, monitor engagement, and analyze metrics to optimize social media and web presence
  • Develop and oversee the SEO marketing strategy
  • Oversee all digital components (including digital content collection and distribution) for the organization’s robust storytelling program
  • Advise and support CEO staff and local site teams on digital and social media strategies and best practices, including facilitating trainings
  • Maintain CEO’s brand guide and ensure adherence to it to guarantee consistent branding across all digital platforms and materials
  • Monitor and analyze digital performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of communications strategies
  • Management of related vendor and consultant relationships

Team Management

  • Manage multiple team members, including a digital marketing associate and multimedia associate
  • Manage ELP (Emerging Leaders Program) members that are part of the digital communications track, providing on-the-job training for program participants
  • Possible management of AmeriCorps VISTAs that are interested in learning about digital communications
  • Ensure ongoing development and coaching of team members to help them build their digital communications repertoire
  • Provide expert guidance and review of products to make sure they are error-free, impactful, and consistent with CEO’s brand and style  
  • Provide team members with ongoing professional development opportunities 

Team Support

  • Prepare proposals, contracts, scopes, and workflow processes for the production of digital communications projects and campaigns
  • Update regularly CEO communications calendar, story bank, and Monday.com project management system
  • Create and deliver high-quality digital communications presentations for funders, executive and senior managers, and other key stakeholders

Compensation and Benefits  

The salary range for this position is $67,000-$85,000 annually CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. This position can be located in any of the cities in which CEO operates. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well the other factors named above.
