ABOUT THE ROLE AND OUR TEAM:  

As a member of our Editorial team, the Digital Designer is responsible for creating and curating a cohesive visual experience across The Knot’s editorial content ecosystem with an emphasis on TheKnot.com, social media, and supporting editorial video. They will run point on the daily design needs for these platforms while working closely with the Creative Director and other cross-disciplinary teammates to brainstorm creative approaches for larger franchises and initiatives. The Digital Designer will embrace and help visually communicate our brand values. They will play a pivotal role in translating our editorial design identity from The Knot print magazine to our digital channels. The ideal candidate has a passion for visual storytelling, an innovative spirit, and draws inspiration from an inclusive bank of references rooted both in art and culture. They are comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively in an exciting fast-paced environment and must bring a level of uncompromising taste, quality, and attention to detail to all of their work. This position will work closely alongside editors, editorial leaders, and cross-departmental stakeholders and reports to the Creative Director, Editorial. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conceptualize and execute original on-brand designs, photo illustrations, infographics, and graphic elements for daily digital articles and social media 
  • Work collaboratively alongside the Creative Director, editors, and cross-functional stakeholders to brainstorm visual treatments for larger editorial franchises and their applications across channels
  • Work closely with the creative director and editorial video team to develop and implement a brand-aligned visual identity for editorial programs and series
  • Handle internal and external photo research and curation
  • Bring static graphics to life digitally with motion animation treatments
  • Art direct and assign illustration and animation as needed
  • Create style guides and formatted templates for editors to populate
  • Provide visuals and design support for internal and external stakeholder briefings
  • Collaborate across teams as a visual consultant for The Knot editorial identity
  • Take initiative in completing daily tasks with confidence and work autonomously to ensure the creative process remains on schedule

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES HAVE:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience designing for an editorial outlet or a consumer brand
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field preferred
  • Exquisite taste level, an elevated eye, and a solid grasp of current visual trends
  • A strong portfolio of work demonstrating precise and imaginative typography and a mastery of the principles of color, composition, and hierarchy
  • Discerning photo editing and curation instincts
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to high standards of excellence when it comes to production and execution
  • The ability to work independently as a self-starter and also collaboratively as a team-player
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while working on multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • An articulate communication style and openness to giving and receiving feedback
  • Expert proficiency in relevant design tools (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, etc) 
  • Illustration or motion graphics abilities are a plus
