Digital Innovation Engineer
The go-getting candidate will be responsible for advancing front end innovation funnel with new technologies that provide growth for the business. This includes researching and prototyping creative concepts reducing the technical risk with prototyping creative concepts, reducing the technical risk with technologies in adjacencies, technology scouting, and evaluating inorganic growth opportunities in partnership with CCMD Innovation and MDS Business Development, and driving technology development. This position provides overall technical direction for the strategy, design, development and implementation of sensing, algorithm development, applied data science, and analytics efforts for data analytic and statistical programming projects within the healthcare domain.
Primary responsibilities:
Scout and de-risk new technologies that augment the CCMD front-end innovation opportunities that provide accretive growth for the business by researching/landscaping new technologies, generating new concepts, prototyping internally developed (organic opportunities) and licensed technology, and evaluating inorganic technology opportunities.

- Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the Innovation director and works with the Innovation team on designing front-end innovation ideas and efficiently driving 1) early innovation conceptualization and prototyping based on user insights, 2) reducing to practice and maturing innovation concepts based on the Real-Win-Worth framework, and 3) reducing risk for technology transfer of innovation concepts out of Gate C exit to GPDS with Product Development
- Leads strategy, and implementation of sensors, informatics, applied data science, and analytics efforts for data analytic and statistical projects within the Innovation and global business units.
- Collaborates with informaticists, data scientists, and algorithm experts who advance the strategies, analytic projects involving multiple sources of data (device-generated, patient generated, EHR, claims) and participate in planning around analytic methods, technologies, staffing and training.
- Participates in activities related to data integration, data cleaning, descriptive analyses, predictive analyses, exploratory analyses, data mining, text analytics, rapid prototyping, and data visualization for example.
- Leads front-end innovation efforts using a multitude of processes and tools. Accountable for timely delivery, technical excellence and process effectiveness of innovation activities ensuring the delivery with the innovation team on project commitments and deadlines
- Leads innovation projects of varying complexity, including technology road mapping with innovation team members, R&D associates, and Innovation, Product Development, and Product Engineering directors.
- Develops deep expertise in selected areas of focus. Build and maintain an active network in the industry with incubators/accelerators, academic scientists, and key opinion leaders in critical areas for the company as well as with pharma, biotech and venture communities in the selected focus areas
- Conducts initial assessment of select inbound opportunities; leads scientific and clinical due diligence with cross-functional teams.
- Ensures effective and efficient regular formal and informal communications with Innovation team members using a variety of tools and channels.
- Works to ensure that the appropriate resources are available for the project and chip in to the expected levels. Assists the Director to ensure project resources are fully applied and releasing them (completely or partially) as soon as workload permits.

- Additional skills
- Project management: has experience and knowledge of front-end innovation and product development.
- Strong mechanical and/or electro-mechanical proficiency and engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with plastic design, injection molding, Raspberry Pi/Arduino and/or SDKs, preferred.
- Dealing with ambiguity: comfortable in a changing environment and the uncertainty that accompanies technology and clinical areas new-to-the-business or new-to-world.
- Education
- A bachelor of science in computer science, computer engineering, biostatistics, or biomedical engineering is a requirement.
- A master's degree or PhD in the same fields or related fields is preferred.
Requirements:
- Expertise with clinical data and interoperability standards (CCDA, HL7, FHIR)
- Design and leverage analytic methods dressing the needs of the client and client data driven decision-making
- Experience working with large-scale databases, big data frameworks, and tools
- Extensive experience with SAS, R, SQL, and/or Python in the application of machine learning, network analysis, text analytics and/or predictive modeling
- Experience with data visualization tools
- Communicate design specifications, data science methods and results of models to internal and external audiences
- Experience of driving decisions within highly matrixed, cross-functional teams.
- Deep technical curiosity, courage, and contribute to advancing ambitious and daring ideas that provide better options for patients and caregivers
- Possess a high degree of motivation, and energizing approach to all engagements
