OBJECTIVES:

  • Provide thought and technical leadership in applying machine learning approaches in drug discovery and development processes, i.e. target identification, lead identification, lead optimization.
  • Work with computational chemists and computational biologists to drive the application of the machine learning models in drug discovery and development projects.
  • Provide technical leadership to identify, design, develop and deploy solutions to scientific R&D problems within the product focused R&D organization and contribute to complex product-oriented roadmaps.
  • Lead global strategic activities for design and configuration of all technical aspects within scientific data management and use and coordinates alignment with the product organization.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Building predictive models that effectively use heterogenous multi-modal data to assist scientific decision making, e.g. modeling biological effects of compounds using chemical or biologics structure and functional screening data
  • Collaborate with computational scientists at each site to provide technologies and models to support drug discovery and development projects in different therapeutic areas using machine learning techniques (emphasis on deep learning)
  • Drive integration of the modeling pipelines into internal data mining platforms together with end-users (chemists, biologists, computational chemists or biologists) and IT support to increase adoption
  • Manage and influence technical product development approaches, the use of different technologies, patterns, and design methods along with modern scripted deployment techniques to deliver on product development and enhancements rapidly and iteratively.
  • Contribute to and take responsibility for the overall technical strategy & influences operational strategy of the function aligning with associated disciplines both in R&D and IT
  • Monitor and manage the implementation of major plans, products, and programs within a capability line across R&D disciplines taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
  • Works independently to navigate complex situations with guidance in only the most business critical situations with wider strategic impact. Provides leadership to own discipline and influences other disciplines.
  • Builds strong relationships with both R&D and IT functions and employs effective negotiation skills to reach agreement with internal or external parties and act as a point of escalation for complex non-routine problems.


EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Required:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's or equivalent in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics or a related quantitative field
  • Eight or more years of experience in applied analytics/machine learning/predictive modeling, or equivalent
  • Advanced Python and R programming skills
  • Experience with Deep Learning machine learning frameworks, like PyTorch, Keras, Tensorflow, etc
  • Actively participate in the scientific and technology community to stay current with algorithm, methodology, and state of the art data engineering technologies
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical R&D scientific processes.
  • Ability to write, speak and lead in English.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, business acumen with problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Professional in-depth knowledge of business processes in pharmaceutical industry within functional area.
  • Knowledge of business and system solutions and experience with implementing applications.
  • Experience in business analysis and project management.
  • Experience in stakeholder relationship management.
  • Experience in communicating complex information in a clear and engaging manner, adjust form and meetings to this and builds collaborative network of relationships in the business area and outside.
  • Experience in presenting at conferences and business meetings.


Preferred:

  • Master or higher Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics or a related quantitative field
  • Experience of working with research chemists or biologists in an academic or industrial setting for learning pipeline development
  • Experience with the design and development of pharmaceutical life sciences software or solutions.
  • Experience with cloud based big data computing environment

U.S. Base Salary Range:
$149,100.00 - $234,300.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.β€―The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
