Golin Chicago is looking for a Director of account management, with strategic social/digital expertise, to join one of our largest and most dynamic teams in the office!

We need a client counselor, with agency experience, who has worked with iconic consumer brands and managed multi-faceted account teams, building truly integrated, earned-first digital and social media activations.

You are a communications expert with a focus in digital and social media. You can see the bigger picture; drive thought leadership and enable effective decision making to achieve client and business goals. You understand the impact of issues and crisis on branded social content and have experience overseeing analytics and measurement teams.

In this role, you will present strategic marketing recommendations, address challenges and opportunities, present a vision for the business, and develop social-savvy solutions. You will help lead a large and dynamic social media team working across different time zones, while empowering, developing, and mentoring junior teammates.

The ideal candidate has managed large teams, developed deep client relationships, has extensive social and digital experience, owning activations across all social platforms.

You have a history of providing strategic client counsel, are highly organized, solutions-oriented, and proactive, with a demonstrated ability of working with, and passion for, consumer brands.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own client strategy and all social/digital plans for one of Golin’s largest accounts 
  • Help lead day-to-day account operations, serving as a primary client contact, building relationships with key clients to ensure that client/agency relationships exist on multiple levels/points of contact and will grow over time 
  • Partner with issues and crisis, analytics, creative and channel expert leaders to provide client counsel and drive an overall vision for the business
  • Stay atop of industry best practices, client, and competitor brand activity, and ensure Golin delivers game-changing ideas and solutions
  • Supervise, mentor, and support the development of junior team members
  • Excel at verbal and written client, interpersonal and intra-team communications
  • Stay ahead of consumer and retail trends, create story opportunities from real-time news events, identify and lead organic growth opportunities  
  • Understand our clients’ business, industry competition, and relevant media 
  • Collaborate with teams across multiple disciplines and geographies and successfully manage complex, fast-moving, and unexpected communications challenges
  • Interact with clients to present strategic recommendations addressing challenges and opportunities, as well as in “think on your feet” situation
  • Manage overall finance performance of accounts, including forecasting, staffing to utilization targets, maintaining project outreach, manager external vendors scoping accurate budgets for clients.

What You’ll Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in PR, marketing communications, or related field
  • At least 7+ years of PR agency experience a must, owning client relationships and managing social/digital activations
  • Extensive experience leading the development and execution of creative, strategic social media campaigns that have earned mass awareness, strengthened brand equity, and/or impacted business objectives
  • Proven experience working in social media and communications
  • Experience with analytics and measurement efforts tied to a brand’s customer journey (beyond share of voice) is a plus
  • Demonstrated expertise and proven experience working on established, substantial and significant consumer brands - a focus on retail consumer business a plus
  • Extensive experience as a client lead and partner, with the ability to own multiple workstreams, building deep relationships and partnerships with client leads
  • Superior writing and editing skills that can communicate creatively and in an engaging manner
  • Deep understanding of earned digital, and paid media approaches
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, highly organized, with superior client service skills
  • Passion and enthusiasm, a positive spirit, able to translate that energy into generating results
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and client teams at all levels
  • Strategic and creative thinking with an entrepreneurial, solutions-oriented, flexible mindset and ability to function in a fast-paced environment 
  • Experience managing all financial aspects of client business and managing/achieving revenue goals internally at an agency important 
  • Developed and managed multiple projects and programs including strategic implementation plans, staffing plans, budgets, and timelines  
  • Accountable for producing and delivering high-quality work and impactful, measurable results, while ensuring team members do the same.  
  • Established manager, who has grown talent via mentoring, providing constructive feedback and inspiring best in class work

Salary Range: $94,000 - $165,000

Golin has included the base salary range or hourly rate for this role. Actual compensation offered within the range will depend upon, among other factors: a candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience; actual ranges for current or former employees in the role; and market considerations.
