Director, Accounting Operations
Job Description
The Director, Accounting Operations will be responsible for overseeing all general ledger functions including fixed assets and intercompany accounting as well as overall analysis for the Company's financial results. This individual will develop and establish current and long-range strategic plans and objectives for the preparation and review of the general ledger, financial results, controls and processes within the Accounting Operations department. The Director will design, establish and implement new systems and processes necessary to meet the requirements needed to meet the Company's short-and-long term financial objectives and priorities. He/she will build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including external auditors and legal advisors to ensure Intelsat is aware of, and in compliance with the latest accounting standards.
In addition, this position will perform and facilitate quarterly and year end audits under tight timeframes. You'll oversee and manage the monthly accounting close process and the completion of all analytical fluctuation analysis as well as account reconciliations. The Director, Accounting Operations will manage all special projects affecting accounting operations including evaluating and recording complex transactions as necessary. You'll be required to partner with technical accounting experts to understand and implement all new accounting pronouncements/transactions which impact accounting operations and the treatment of such transactions or pronouncements.
Are you up to the challenge?
- Oversee the Intelsat Operations accounting department adhering to a strict monthly accounting close schedule including reconciliations of financial results and maintenance of the Company's fixed asset subledger and liaison with the Company's Intelsat General Corporation subsidiary
- Oversee the preparation of analysis, reconciliations and schedules supporting the accuracy and completeness of the financial information within the Company's general ledger in connection with period-end processes
- Oversee and ensure accuracy of the Company's legal entity accounting and records
- Oversee and ensure the documentation, authorization and review of journal entries and other key controls are completed in compliance with existing SOX 404 processes
- Monitor and enhance documentation and procedures to ensure these meet audit and SOX 404 standards and are complied with regularly and consistently
- Develop and document accounting standard operating procedures and policies for the organization
- Document the treatment of material complex transactions to support period end processes including quarterly reviews and annual independent audits
- Assist the VP, Shared Accounting Services, the VP, Tax and the Director, Financial Reporting in the implementation, documentation and recording of complex transactions and special projects
- Manage critical projects that have a material impact to the financial statements.
- Facilitate and incorporate activities for system enhancements. Ensure that system enhancements are adopted and implemented property. Provide training when needed
- Able to train, mentor and grow a staff of professional accountants
- Cross functional coordination to insure completeness and accuracy of accounting records.
- Continually look to streamline flow of information between the local accounting system and the Oracle G/L systems
- Provide direct leadership and guidance to staff including training and mentoring
- Ability to present financial information that easily understandable to executives
You should definitely have:
- Bachelors' Degree in Accounting, MBA preferred
- Certified Public Accountant
- Experience managing complex accounting processes
- Experience managing accounting staff in a complex, multi-entity accounting environment
- At least 15 years of experienced required
- Previous management experience required.
- Thorough working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC and other accounting and reporting standards
- Must have the ability to at times work long hours and weekends in order to meet our various filing deadlines.
- This role is subject to ITAR/EAR; candidates must be a US Person (this includes US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Individual such as an asylee or refugee).
