Job Description
As the Director, Accounts Receivable you will be responsible for leading the company’s billing and collections operations and managing an accounts receivable team of approximately 10 people. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and enforcing policies and procedures, as well as streamlining effective billing processes across multiple product lines and customer segments. This position is highly visible and requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan, and direct the department. In this position, you will be reporting to our VP, Controller and work out of our Scottsdale, AZ headquarters.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction for all activities within accounts receivable processing, administration, and personnel, including but not limited to billing/invoicing, collections and cash applications activities.
- Identify optimization opportunities in billing/invoicing, cash applications and collections processes.
- Implement effective and efficient collection strategies, processes and workflows to support overall financial goals.
- Continually review customer payment patterns to ensure that account balances are current and payment trends are in line with company standards.
- Provide leadership regarding the standardization of customer payment processes.
- Develop management reporting for tracking of accounts receivable performance.
- Provide forecasting for collections as an input for cash flow, providing guidance to the team for goal attainment, and feedback to management relating to accounts receivable status.
- Develop and drive best practices in operations and processes ensuring consistency with company requirements, internal and external controls and audit requirements.
- Play a key role in evaluating and implementing new software tools to help scale our billing operation.
- Assist in the resolution of customer complaints related to billing issues.
- Plan, organize, lead and control the activities of the group, including projects, schedules, priorities, and personnel. This includes operational and strategic efforts aimed to drive business process improvement including cost management opportunities.
- Foster an environment of operational excellence and promote/implement continuous improvement practices.
- Hire, train and mentor direct reports. Define objectives, provide clear direction, and be responsible for their quality of work, performance reviews, and career development.
Required Qualifications
- 7-10 years of related experience in accounting or finance, including accounts receivable supervisory or management experience.
- Proficient in using accounting software and MS Office applications (Excel, Word)
- Familiarity with technical accounting standards (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance
- Ability to effectively communicate with leadership, internal teams, and external customers.
- Continuous improvement mindset and a proven track record of implementing efficient processes related to accounts receivable.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to identify and track business trends that will have an impact on accounts receivable functions.
- Strong administration and reporting skills.
- Good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Experience working for a SaaS (Software as a Service) company.
- Experience working in the multifamily property or construction industries.
- Knowledge and experience with NetSuite and 360 Subscription Billing.
- Knowledge and experience with Salesforce.
- Experience with Google Workspace.
