Director, Actuarial Modernization – Quality Control
Job Description
The Director, Actuarial Modernization β Quality Control is responsible for providing leadership for multiple concurrent projects by identifying and removing obstacles to ensure projects are on track, ensuring control steps are executed and ensuring final documentation is completed and filed. This role will also assist with project prioritization, communication of project status and providing thought leadership on problem resolution.
The Director, Actuarial Modernization β Quality Control reports to the VP, Actuarial Modernization. The Actuarial Modernization team focuses on both implementation of new initiatives into the Corporate Actuarial business processes and updating existing processes and systems for efficiency and scalability. This position will work cross-functionally with other internal departments as necessary (IT, Finance, Retail Pricing & Design, Ops, Institutional, etc.).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the execution of project plans and implementation processes for multiple concurrent projects related to the Corporate Actuarial team
- Provide leadership in understanding and removing obstacles to project plan tasks and timelines for multiple concurrent projects.
- Responsible for making critical decisions to keep projects on track while keeping VP, Actuarial Modernization informed on those key decisions. Ensure that all control steps are executed for assigned projects, most critically for final iterations of implementation processes.
- Lead discussions and the coordination of cross functional work flow to ensure projects are on track to meet project deadlines. Escalate issues as needed in a timely and efficient manner
- Partner with the VP, Actuarial Modernization and the Actuarial Modernization Project Manager on:
- Project prioritization, sequencing and work assignments every two weeks
- Communication of project statuses and upcoming schedules to other Corporate Actuarial VPs and other VP+ level stakeholders
- Resource capacity and analysis of project pipeline and schedule. Proactively identify resource needs to support business priorities.
- Lead and analyze root causes of project plan breakdowns and lead formulation of resolutions with relevant stakeholders
- Ensure all project documentation is complete and filed in a timely and accurate manner. Partner with the VP, Actuarial Modernization to develop quality control strategy, processes, and procedures that are in alignment with department strategies and initiatives
Experience and Education Requirements
- Excellent critical thinking, analysis and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated leadership in difficult/challenging situations and with multiple counterparties
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability and desire to learn and understand complex processes
- Ability to drive for results
- 8+ years experience with preferred
- Insurance industry experience preferred
