JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for all aspects of the strategic delivery of technology solutions that support Southern Power Company (SPC) and PowerSecure (PS). Partnering closely with the business, this leader develops a technology strategy that enables the business to achieve its goals and objectives and is aligned with the overall enterprise technology strategy and goals. This role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence and delivering highly reliable and quality technology solutions and services. The Director, IT - Southern Power and PowerSecure reports directly to Southern Company's Director of Electric Technology Solutions, and is responsible for approximately 60 IT professionals, including contractors, across various geographic locations. This role has responsibilities for applications, infrastructure, and workplace solutions teams within the PS business. This position is responsible for managing a $20-30M annual technology budget across two separate businesses with separate IT networks, infrastructure, and applications. The annual project portfolio is $20M - $25M.
This position owns strategy, operations, and delivery for all aspects of technology solutions. He/she provides leadership and influence through active participation in customer activities, and leverages business and technical resources from across the organization to ensure the timely delivery and support of effective business solutions. The position is responsible for the successful management of production support and maintenance of existing business solutions, as well as the implementation and execution of new solution development.
This position is a member of the Electric Technology Solutions leadership team and is directly accountable to the VP of Technology, Electric Technology Solutions. This position has a dotted line relationship to the SVP and Chief Administrative Officer for SPC and PS and a member of the business unit leadership team.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Defines mission, vision, and key behaviors for organization to increase business partnership and value as well as grow talent.
- Applies strong leadership and strategic thinking to a diverse set of opportunities and challenges, serving as a strategic partner and enabler of all facets of SPC and PS.
- Uses business acumen to shape and influence IT investment and plans that have direct net income impact to competitive business models.
- Formulates and influences foundational technology strategy and implementation at PS that optimally leverages Southern Company Services policies processes, skills, and resources to provide a reliable and secure environment to enable 10x planned growth of the core distributed infrastructure business.
- Partners with officer and senior business leaders across the organization and works closely with the technology organization to ensure resources and strategies are aligned to current and future business needs.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive technology roadmap for the support business units
- Establishes and leads the PS IT Steering Committee and the SPC Technology Advisory Group representing key business functions.
- Accountable for improving and maintaining the cyber security posture of SPC and PS collaborating with SCS TO Security experts and leadership.
- Collaborates with over 20 IT department leaders for service delivery and budgetary diligence including infrastructure, services, projects, applications, data, and cyber security.
- Drives innovation and leverages technology to create value and transform the business.
- Delivers technology solutions that are common where possible and custom where it counts.
- Drives and manages continuous improvement of technology delivery, maintenance, production support and reliability.
- Provides cost-effective management, rationalization and simplification of the businesses' technology portfolio, systems, and projects.
- Creates an overall technology budget and manages financial performance.
- Hires, develops, rewards, and retains highly qualified and diverse team.
- Establishes and enforces appropriate technology and business policies, practices, and processes.
- Acts a student of the business and technology, anticipating future needs and directional shifts.
- Creates an environment that fosters accountability, innovation, and engagement
Education:
- Degree in Computer Science or related field is required. An advanced degree is desirable.
- 1 0 or more years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years of experience managing multiple, medium-to-large- sized and cross-functional teams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of information technology with an extensive understanding of application development technologies and methodologies.
- Experience establishing and defining a comprehensive technology strategy and roadmap that meets the strategic and operational objectives of the business.
- Broad knowledge of the utility business functions and an understanding of how the Technology Organization adds value to these organizations.
- Building strong leadership teams and high performing organizations.
- Leading and operating in a fast pace, real-time operational environment with changing business dynamics.
