The Director of Architecture Governance is responsible for the technology-enabled Business transformation and facilitate the investment decisions in appropriate and leverage existing systems, whilst innovating and inspiring change in alignment with Global Enterprise Architecture.
Recipe for Success - What's "in store" for the role
Leadership:

• Establish an architecture community which is a beacon of excellence within Ahold Delhaize and to embed architectural thinking as a way of working
• Attract, develop, appraise, and mentor associates to ensure talent development and succession planning.
• Challenge the status and motivate changes to improve business performance and productivity.
• Drive development of next generation IT talent by implementing career paths to improve associate performance.

IT Strategy:

• Define the operating unit IT strategy, roadmap, and transition plan that enables the brand to achieve its strategy and financial performance targets.
• Working with the Local Head of IT and business executives to create and align the business and technology strategies for local infrastructure, key applications, and resources in conjunction with Global IT infrastructure and other initiatives.
• Agreeing an IT architecture roadmap and providing leadership to drive execution and resolve cross-domain issues.

Enterprise Architecture:

• Optimize vendor strategy, license strategy and security as part of Enterprise architecture for the brand.
• Ensure that the value of existing/old technology is maximized and that the most appropriate decisions are taken on replacement of old - considering making a step change in the business improvements delivered, overall cost, scale of business change and elapsed time in delivery.
• Ensure all security and compliance aspects are considered in enterprise architecture (secure by design, compliant by design).
• Ensure convergent solutions unless there is a strong case not to.
• Own the design of vendor strategy considering license efficiency and vendor positioning/focus in line with overall strategy.
• Support negotiations for local supplier contracts.

Professional standards and policies:

• Lead the implementation and track KPI's across the local business domains.
• Support architects to translate strategy and reference architectures into domain specific architecture visions
• Govern IT decision making through the application of principles, policies, and reference models to solution review and sign-off.

Thought Leadership

• Provide thought leadership and standard methodology to develop the internal IT team.
• Stay informed of new technologies and the potential applicability to the retail / eCommerce deployment.
• Provide SME and manage expectations the following areas.
  • Implementation methodology.
  • Pace layering: Matching IT solutions for changing business requirements for systems of records, differentiation, and innovation.
  • Enterprise architecture domains
  • application transition planning to ensure projects are deliverable and meeting expectations.
  • Digital innovation areas such as mobile, social, gamification, loyalty, Omni channel and in-store technology.
  • Development of internal capability in data analytics.
• Act as a motivator for change throughout the organization, looking for industry standard process and trends whilst evolving internal technology direction and adoption.
• Ensure that all enterprise, domain and solution architects stay ahead of leading technology trends and emerging technology providers and are well equipped to fulfil their roles as advisors towards business and IT solution development

Financial Management:

• Align the roadmap to the long-range plans and financial budgets of the businesses.
• See to it that the TCO implications of architect decisions are factored into the solution choices.
• Review investment proposals to ensure alignment of IP to architecture designs.
• Design solutions with software license implications in mind to control license costs and ensure compliance.
• Maintain technical debt registers to confirm that the cost of technical debt is managed and advises the software lifecycle management processes.

Risk, Compliance, Security:

• Define the architectural principles and policies by which solution will adhere to the security, privacy and compliance regimes.
• Support the program & project delivery teams embed security, privacy, and regulatory needs into design of solutions.
• Control solutions to these standards through the implementation of strong architectural governance of solutions.

The Essentials In Your Cart - The required ingredients

• MSc Computer Science/Information Management or related field OR equivalent professional experience
• 15+ years of relevant working experience in software engineering and architecture
• Application development experience with modern technology stack and Agile methodologies
• Experience with cloud native micro-services architecture

Extra Spices

• Retail and eCommerce domain knowledge preferred but not required.
• Solid understanding of DevOps and CI/CD
• Proven comprehension of Agile Methodology and/or Scrum, Consultancy Skills, Agile Architecture, ArchiMate
