PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Director of Art and Culture and Art Curator will provide strategic leadership around a company-wide vision and strategy around the curating & programming of new development, to include leading key roles during request for concept and request for proposal submissions, as well as the acquisition & disposition of all artwork for MGM Resorts. This position is responsible for partnering with senior executives to identify current and future initiatives and to make recommendations to maximize visibility and profit. This position is responsible for curating the company's fine art collection, valued at over $200 million. This position sources exhibitions for Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art and other venues, to include managing fine art curation at the MGM Grand Mansion and Aria Sky Suites. This position is responsible for providing unique guest experience through exclusive tours and partners with outside entities to manage Seven Magic Mountains. All duties are performed in accordance with departmental and MGM Resorts International policies, practices and procedures as well as within the framework and intent of the Mission Statement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the development and execution of an arts and culture strategy that furthers larger Company-wide objectives
  • Act as in-house art advisor offering expert insight on high value transactions
  • Introduce the curation & programming of new developments creating revenue enhancement opportunities
  • Establish the annual plan for the outreach & partnering, maintenance & preservation, cataloging & archiving, staffing support & operations and exhibition & display activities
  • Define and execute the governance and protocols for art acquisitions/deaccessions and exhibition
  • Structure and negotiate artist proposals and project budgets to optimize asset value
  • Oversee the day to day operation of the Art & Culture Department
  • Spearheading the development and implementation of advertising and marketing materials
  • Budgeting, planning and implementing exhibits, including working with the Associate Director in overseeing the management of exhibits and selection of artworks
  • Identify, develop and maintain key partnerships and relationships that create and enhance brand awareness and strengthen the company's status within the exclusive art community
  • Increase the visibility of MGM Resorts International through the Art & Culture strategy
  • Develop processes to drive collaboration and integration across the organization to best leverage the collections of the company
  • Partner and facilitate collaboration with internal partners/departments to promote MGM Resorts as a leader in the art world and increase visibility in the local community
  • Create and maintain a work environment that promotes client service, teamwork, performance feedback, individual recognition, mutual respect, and employee satisfaction ensuring quality hiring, training, and succession planning processes that encompass the company's diversity commitment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Four (4) years of experience in design or art field

PREFERRED:
  • Demonstrate experience in conceiving, developing, and producing contemporary art exhibitions and artist projects.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team on research, exhibitions, and publications.
  • Prior museum or gallery experience and knowledge of high caliber art operations, standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of 20th and 21st century art history with emphasis on modern & contemporary art and living artists.
  • Working knowledge of standard curatorial practice and collections management best practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to think critically; research, recommend and implement solutions effectively.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, ideally with some direct exposure to business domains such as finance or operations.
  • Must possess broad-based credibility and is capable of consistently working under pressure with vague/limited information while forging close working relationships with other senior executives throughout the organization.
  • Must be comfortable, articulate and dynamic in front of both external and internal audiences, including clients, senior management and customers.
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Outlook.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
