Director, Associate Relations

The Director, Associate Relations is responsible for developing and building an associate relations function that helps leaders and associates drive accountability, our Empowerment with Accountability (EWA) culture, diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) as well as the overall associate experience.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Lead a team of Associate Relations professionals that advise and consult with leaders and associates on a broad range of associate relations issues including coaching, conflict resolution, internal investigations, corrective action, terminations and other highly confidential matters
- Support the team as they build new skill sets (i.e. conflict resolution, mediation, team building) and grow expertise in understanding how bias impacts decisions and how we build processes to ensure equity
- Re-imagine and define how we address performance concerns and terminations across the company, by assessing operating principles, policies, processes and technology
- Drive accountability and operational excellence in everything we do from case management to delivering on priorities and commitments
- Define and lead the team in the strategy and execution of organizational changes and performance-based exits (org changes, job eliminations and involuntary exits)
- Define and own how we consult on and address and build broadening capability across the enterprise on organizational health issues and specific workplace concerns
- Ensure oversight and governance of policies and practices globally, including interpreting and apply understanding of corporate policies and practices, employment laws, and other regulations to provide advice, guidance, or clarification for Associate Relations inquiries
- Collaborates with Legal/Compliance and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and disseminating, explaining, and consulting regarding those requirements
- Provides insights on trends and patterns and translates them into proactive proposals
Job Requirements
Required Education and/or Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality as well as exercise sound judgment
- Ability to provide an independent point of view on people and issues while having the courage and sensitivity to deliver tough messages to leaders and associates
- Proven success consulting, coaching and influencing associates and leaders at all levels of the organization
- Adept at handling multiple competing priorities and responsibilities in a fast-paced, results driven environment
- Strong working knowledge of state and federal employment laws including but not limited to, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, NLRB, Title VII, etc.
- Excellent attention to detail and decision-making skills
Recommended Education and/or Certifications
- SHRM Certification
- Master's Degree
Required Work Experience
- 7+ in Associate Relations as well as prior people leadership experience
- Ability to demonstrate consultation and influencing skills at all levels and experience with high-level collaboration and teamwork
- Ability to perform as a trusted advisor and to build partnerships at all levels
- Previous experience working with legal counsel to develop and comply with HR policies and procedures as well as federal and state employment laws and regulations.
- Working experience in preparing and reviewing proposals for organizational restructuring
- Exercise excellent judgment, tact, discretion, and professionalism, especially when it comes to confidential documents and communications
- Deep understanding of and ability to be impartial, exhibit extreme fairness and assess each situation through this lens
- Excellent judgment and a high bar for integrity
- Or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background
Salary Band: 07B
This selected candidate will be expected to work hybrid in Indianapolis, IN. The candidate will also be expected to physically return to the office in CA, WI, IN or ME as business needs dictate or for team-building and collaboration.
