Puck is looking for a Director, Brand Marketing who will be responsible for overseeing growth of the Puck brand and aligning strategic efforts of the brand to its tactical components (campaigns, social media, events, etc). 


In this role, the Brand Director will develop an overarching strategic plan for the brand that takes into account key strategic moments across our core areas of coverage: Entertainment, Finance, Media, Politics, Fashion. This includes a brand calendar for key activations (both digitally and experientially) and all elements it entails. The Director will manage the end-to-end brand strategy from holistic and specific ideation through to launch, balancing thoughtful strategy with flawless execution. They will also manage evergreen brand related activities, such as social media, client and VIP outreach, events RSVPs, and more. 


This role manages a team of three direct reports: social media manager, brand manager, and community engagement manager, while concurrently facilitating cross functional teamwork within the overall organization. They also understand that while Puck is growing, this is a startup, and along with creating the strategies they’ll have to roll their sleeves up and execute. 


The ideal candidate embraces innovation, creativity, and collaboration, with an analytical and a data-driven approach to create world-class brand initiatives across all marketing channels and fastidiously keeping Puck’s brand and voice front of mind. The experienced Director will bring a proven track record in driving campaigns and launching initiatives and have key knowledge of the latest trends, products, and competitive landscape across media. They will understand Puck’s audience and strive to merge insights with emotion in our brand // marketing // product efforts. Finally, they are organized and experienced in project management and aligning and driving teams with competing priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead & manage a team of direct reports across brand marketing, organic social, and community engagement.
  • Propose and own the year long brand initiative calendar across events, brand campaigns, and key cultural tentpole moments that Puck should surround.
  • Drive collaborative business plans across Puck’s overarching brand and verticals to ensure alignment on goals for the brand.
  • Develop and own a clear & strategic roadmap to support these business plans (eg specific tentpole moments like Puck anniversary campaigns).
  • Own the overarching brand and communication strategy, including audience insights, segmentation, targeting & positioning.
  • Oversee the development of creative campaigns for our brand and verticals.
  • Support the team in writing inspiring briefs, allocate budget to drive those ideas forward, engage with stakeholders to ensure we achieve desired outcomes, and define clear success metrics & measurement strategies for each campaign.
  • Help develop brand, vertical, and author positioning, value props, go-to-market strategy, packaging and marketing communications and campaigns.
  • Become an expert in the media landscape to both understand the competitive set as well as understand and recommend innovative products that improve // grow the subscriber experience.
  • Act as a strong cross-functional partner who is deeply invested in learning and supporting teams across the company.
  • Work with the go-to-market team to ensure achievement of key milestones leading up to an effective product launch.
  • Evaluate and create unique brand events, subscriber initiatives, partnerships, and cross-promotion opportunities to broaden awareness, trial and consideration.
  • With events, manage the vision and execution of events, including managing guests lists and RSVPs.
  • Propose and manage the year long budget for Puck brand initiatives.

The Right Person Will Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 7+ years of brand marketing experience (media or luxury/fashion space preferred)
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A versatile marketer who possesses analytical, strategic and executional skills
  • Must be a self-starter with energy, drive and determination to set clear priorities and accomplish goals
  • Possesses a consumer-first mindset and thrives in an agile, fast-paced team environment
  • Values creativity and strives for best-in-class marketing campaignsInterest in rolling up their sleeves and building things
  • Experience in events
  • Skillful at presenting information effectively and clearly; not fearful of presenting ideas or plans to a group of stakeholders or driving excitement through presenting ideas internally
  • Creative, resourceful, has attention to detail, is self-motivated and is able to handle multiple issues at once while helping contribute to a positive work environment
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Management experience a plus
