Director, Business Development
Job Description
As Director, Business Development for Intelsat General Communications, your primary responsibility is to identify, qualify and lead the capture of new business.
Your key customers include NASA, Missile Defense Agency, USAF and USSF. You must have a proven track record of winning new business. You will develop and implement capture strategies; and prioritize activities including customer engagement, engaging partners and prime contractors while partnering with the internal Intelsat and IGC teams to develop winning proposals. You must currently have a presence in the DoD community to consistently attend symposiums, trade events, industry days all with the focus of winning new business. A key trait we are looking for are people who exhibit thought leadership and the ability to work at all levels of the customer organization.

- Develop strategies and prioritize activities for Business Development
- Responsible for developing and managing the relationship between the organization and potential partners/acquisition candidates by establishing and cultivating relationships with key individuals at target companies
- Identifies and develops new opportunities across the markets using an analytical and creative approach. These may take the form of partnerships, acquisitions, joint marketing agreements, sale/leaseback of assets, and development of key orbital assets
- You'll have leadership responsibility for cross-functional teams in the identification and execution of strategic transactions
- Identifies opportunities for business expansion and develops and manages relationships in strategic markets and accounts that further business development activity
- Directs the identification and pursuit of new strategic relationships across the target customer base for all, or a major portion, of the organization
- Works with and represents the organization to executive level contacts at outside companies and on professional panels (i.e. conferences)
- Works with marketing, business development, finance and technology groups to implement business development strategy into specific initiatives
- Analyzes market data to identify opportunities and create 'out-of-the-box' growth initiatives. Work closely with the Business Development, Engineering and Finance organization and understands how to create winning strategies
- Drives emerging communications capabilities into US Government Customers.
- Develops capture plans for new business within the 5 year operating plan.
- Partners with internal organizations to execute capture plans within the current operating plan year.
- Partners with product development to ensure product availability aligns with capture milestones.
- Identifies key customer relationship gaps and develops contact plans to increase customer intimacy.
You should definitely have:
- 4-year degree from an accredited university
- 15+ years of experience working in business development and executive positions, within satellite communications
- 10+ years of experience working with SATCOM services
- Executive presence: ability to interact with management at key customers and industry partners at all levels
- Highly developed knowledge of business acumen, regulatory regimes, technical capabilities and product portfolios
- Ability to establish mutually beneficial relationships
- Excellent presentation and people skills
- Enthusiasm for aviation that is contagious
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (estimated to be about 50% of time)
- Secret or Higher Security Clearance
- This role is subject to ITAR/EAR; candidates must be a US Person (this includes US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Individual such as an asylee or refugee)
It would be nice if you had:
- MBA
- 10+ years' experience working at tier 1 satellite services operators
- 10+ years selling SATCOM products and services internationally
- 10+ years working with tier 1 terrestrial service providers
