Harley-Davidson has laid out an ambitious growth plan to double our revenues and achieve a 15% Operating Margin by 2030. In addition to internal innovation, we look to accelerate our business through acquisitions, long-term partnerships, and joint ventures. Harley-Davidson is hiring a Director of Business Development to drive all aspects of inorganic growth, including planning, target selection, due diligence, deal negotiations, closure, and integration planning and execution.

The ideal candidate for this role has a background in Business Development, Mergers & Acquisitions, or Private Equity. They have a thorough understanding of the end-to-end transaction process and can guide and advise Harley-Davidson's management team through decisions for the transaction. The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating Harley-Davidson's ecosystem of partners across the motorcycle industry value chain and can form strong relationships with functional leaders across the company.

This role reports directly to the Head of Strategy and Business Development and is responsible for end-to-end transaction execution. It will closely coordinate with legal and finance leads on their M&A, partnership, and joint-venture-related activities and liaise with Business Units and Functional leadership to orchestrate all aspects of transaction execution. This remote role is not tightly linked to a physical location and provides flexibility in where, when and how you accomplish your work.

Job Responsibilities:

Create an inorganic growth strategy and related processes

  • Develop a consistent screening methodology that can quickly and reliably identify the highest priority targets based on fit to Harley-Davidson's strategy plus target willingness to engage in a potential transaction
  • Develop a consistent methodology to determine the value of the acquired business for Harley-Davidson, considering synergies and future growth potential
  • Create a standardized Due Diligence process that draws in and coordinates functional experts from the broader Harley-Davidson organization
Identify potential acquisition targets that can accelerate Harley-Davidson's goals and strategy by developing a deep understanding of the ecosystem of companies related to Harley-Davidson.
  • Liaise with business and functional leaders that routinely interact with attractive companies in the Harley-Davidson network (Parts & Accessories, Apparel & Licensing, Dealer Management, Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, etc.)
  • Maintain an ongoing relationship with potential targets by proactively reaching out and positively representing Harley-Davidson as a long-term business partner Coordinate transaction execution end-to-end, working with Legal, Finance, Tax, and other relevant functions to ensure prompt and desired closure.

  • Coordinate transaction and due diligence teams as the transaction moves and keep top management aware of the deal's progress.
  • Work with the business unit and functional leads to develop an integration plan aligned to the business case/thesis.
  • Coordinate integration teams to execute activities conducive to achieving the business case.
  • Measure the results in terms of value creation for past deals and draw lessons to apply in future transactions
Skill Requirements

  • Business Development: Record of success in business development initiatives, including identification, negotiation, and integration. Experience with deal thesis and integration thesis design, as well as deal development and negotiation. Proven track record of working across all business functions to deliver M&A outcomes, including but not limited to commercial, operations, product, finance, legal, Human Resources, and tax. Demonstrated experience in leading integration of business development activities ensuring strong alignment and synergies within the organization
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership of business development teams, Successful track record of cross-functional leadership with peer-level leaders, and Proven ability to provide business clarity in a high-complex, dynamic environment. Ability to operate with autonomy and be self-motivated in an ambiguous environment. Demonstrated ability to stay calm under pressure and build sustainable buy-in from critical stakeholders. Professional and flexible with solid leadership, delegation, and organizational skills
  • Communication: Strong communication and facilitation skills (written/verbal), with experience delivering executive-level presentations to drive recommendations and determine priorities across organizational boundaries. Proven ability to develop strong cross-functional relationships and the ability to influence/persuade/negotiate with team members, stakeholders, and vendors

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
