Summary

The Director of Central Sales is responsible for managing customers' near term (daily and weekly) sales and service requests and requirements. In support of the Vice President of Sales and Marketing on all activities to aid in developing and carrying out the Sales Strategic Plan for SMS group Inc.

What you'll do
  • Serve in a transitional role within new equipment installations and start-ups to install - Regional Sales personnel within new customer locations.
  • Coordinate hand-off between new equipment team and technical service, spare parts, E&A and Digitalization teams, involving and building up Regional Sales persons to maintain the customer throughout the plant life cycle.
  • Deliver presentations on new company technology to existing customers and potential customers.
  • Support Regional sales team across all product areas for new equipment, rep/mod opportunities as well as maintenance services, spare parts, E&A and Digitalization.
  • Solve customer problems and issues that arise. Serve as a liaison between the customer and the various divisions of SMS group, including workshop personnel and management.
  • Understand what motivates customers to buy and know how to tap into those needs in an effective way.
  • Develop custom strategy with Regional Sales team for individual customer locations including organize product specialist and managers to support sales effort.
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures. Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Manage, mentor, and lead Regional Customer Managers and Regional sales team.
  • Tracking Regional Customer Managers sales goals and report to VP of Sales and Marketing
  • Visit customers for sales and service calls when requested.
  • Coordinate customer visits with Regional Customer Managers.
  • Assist in coordinating Product Specialists and Managers visits with Regional Customer Managers and Regional sales to support sales activities at customer sites.
  • Follow through on all sales activity. This includes the initial contact, receiving and expediting RFQ's to proposals, quoting and order placement, job completion and delivery.
  • Work with Regional Sales team to ensure payment is received for all invoices. 2
  • Responsible for ensuring that customers are aware of the latest technological solutions available from all business units within SMS group (Metallurgy, Rolling, Processing Lines, Long Products, Tube and Pipe, E&A and Digitalization.)
  • Facilitate and assist VP of Sales and Marketing in training for Regional Sales team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Supervises 6-10 employees

What you'll need
  • A minimum of ten years of sales experience within the steel industry is required.
  • Demonstrated and proven sales results
  • Experience in customer relationship management.
  • Travel is required - up to 50%.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to create customized presentations for customer visits. Ability to effectively present information to all levels at customer site.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportion to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Computer Skills: ERP experience, spreadsheet and word processing software, PowerPoint, project management Software.
  • Valid driver's license (significant driving requirements), basic knowledge of reading prints and understanding the functionality of equipment within mills and plants.
