Director Cloud Engineering, Aerospike Cloud Services

Aerospike Cloud Services is responsible to design, architect, and develop as-a-service software for all of  Aerospike’s products including its flagship product - the Aerospike Database. ACS launched our Cloud Managed Service in 2019 and is currently launching our database-as-a-service on AWS called Aerospike Cloud. These cloud services are rapidly growing and are designed to provide multi-cloud database platforms to the market. 


The Director of Cloud Engineering will lead teams of senior software engineers that are designing and developing our as-a-service software. This requires significant experience developing software using the public clouds. We prefer candidates who have hands-on design and coding skills, with a background in building and managing high-performing teams. You will have an opportunity to make a large impact across the Aerospike organization by designing and delivering internet-scale systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight to a team of software engineers building the as-a-service software for high scale use cases.
  • Contribute to the design and development of highly scalable cloud-based software architectures.
  • Guide day-to-day engineering efforts and be able to step in to develop code as necessary.
  • Drive engineering best practices and culture for continuous delivery of quality software.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to understand the use cases and requirements and contribute to the design and development process.
  • Coach and manage direct reports.
  • Develop and grow the engineering team through recruiting and advancement.
  • Participate in on-call rotations in an escalation role.
  • Contribute to vendor management for 3rd parties.
  • Ensure Software Development Life Cycle meets SOC2 and ISO27001 controls.


Essential Business and Technical Skills

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years of professional hands-on software development experience building multiple products (at least 2) using multiple software development languages such as (Go, C++, Rust, Java, etc)
  • 5+ years of managing and growing high performing software engineering teams.
  • Experience managing managers.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in software development.
  • Significant experience developing products that use services from public cloud technology providers such as AWS, GCP, and Azure and experience using their APIs
  • Strong experience with developing software to achieve high-availability, scalability, service discovery, logging, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture patterns and operational characteristics of highly available and scalable applications. 
  • Experience with orchestration and container technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience and strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code, DevOps automation, and orchestration. 
  • Leadership experience in high stress situations (e.g., service events, degradations, disaster recovery)
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills and ability to communicate to technical and business stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Experience with NoSql databases

Salary Range: $210,000 - $230,000
