Job Description Summary:

The Director of Commercial Portfolio Management for Checkout product will manage performance to goals, distill insights from business and customer data and size opportunities for new strategic initiatives. This role will focus on the Merchant side and can either be filled in Chicago, Austin or San Jose/SF.

Since our 2015 IPO, PayPal has expanded its offerings beyond payment products to become a commerce platform. Now there is renewed focus on PayPal’s marquee product, Checkout, as we evolve for the trends in today’s digital economy and expand the value Checkout provides to our two-sided network across the commerce lifecycle.  

Be part of a new function within the Checkout product organization, that manages Checkout product like a business. As part of the Commercial Management team, you will make a major impact, with enterprise-level visibility, by executing to the customer segment-level outcomes for PayPal’s largest product and working across functional stakeholders to align on those outcomes.  This role will focus on the Merchant segment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ownership of the business insights by monitoring key performance indicators and performance to goals (quarterly) by customer segment (either consumer or merchant segment)
  • Owns the process, for either consumer or merchant segment) to translate business insights and business performance into recommendations for actionable product and commercial program initiatives and roadmaps. Drives the prioritization between
  • Execution of complex, cross-functional initiatives that involve product, commercial teams and often policy.
  • Sizing of new opportunities to determine potential for customer and business impact, and work with product teams to co-author written narratives for new products or initiatives.
  • Continually assess market and user research to identify customer opportunities; make recommendations to commission future research needs.

Required Qualifications  

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in technology product management, commercial management including owning a P&L, business development, and/or management consulting  

  • MBA preferred, but not mandatory  

  • Familiarity with financial services or B2B model software is ideal 

  • Evidence of progressive career development with increasing job scope and responsibility 

  • Proven people management experience, growing talent and demonstrating ability to influence a cross-functional team 

  • Experience in navigating complex organizations

-Outcome driven with strong business acumen

You can translate that business insights into business opportunities with confidence and have 10+ years contributing to P&L management, drafting business cases, setting goals, and measuring product and business performance. An MBA or similar highly recommended.

-Customer-first, Product Management

You are experienced with the mechanics of product ideation, product development and product management, and demonstrate a proven track record of doing what is right for the customer. You know that the product experience stretches beyond the software solution.

-Excellent communication through multiple mediums

You know how to tailor your message by audience and can effectively tell a story in either PowerPoint, in written narrative or in a presentation and can up level key takeaways for senior executives.

-Strategic thinking with a strong dose of creativity

You are curious and tend to look at things from a different perspective. This fresh perspective allows you to understand the big picture and how all the components are connected, then distill down into an actionable plan.

-Data fluency

You can easily sort signal from noise and are not easily overwhelmed by tons of data. You can both draw well-founded conclusions based on approximations and dive deep to understand the components of a complex model. Most of all, you can tell compelling stories from the data that will influence our strategic direction.
