What You’re Applying For:
Edmunds is looking for a Director of Content to be an integral member of our 40 person editorial team. The right candidate will be trustworthy, unbiased and capable of connecting with car shoppers on their level. This means putting aside your own personal biases in favor of one that looks at each vehicle as a potential purchase.
We're looking for someone who relishes the challenge of keeping up with fast-breaking developments; making quick judgments about which topics to cover; and helping devise creative angles and unique approaches to written formats. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the largest and most forward-thinking editorial teams in the automotive world.
What You’ll Do:
- Collaborate with stakeholders in the development of industry-leading automotive storytelling
- Work with Executive Director, Written to build out news and feature content strategy around latest data, trends and SEO
- Optimize content using the latest SEO techniques
- Ideate story concepts to keep Edmunds at the forefront of automotive; raise our visibility in an increasingly noisy segment and help ensure we are the destination for consumers for all things cars, trucks, SUVs and EVs
- Be a leading voice in the development of EV content
- Help identify and develop new content types across all platforms
- Identify, develop and nurture writing talent
- Work with the Executive Director, Written to identify and execute best practices in our written content production
- Work with Executive Director, Video and Senior Director, Social to bring to life engaging stories across all media
- Help develop an environment that fosters creativity, communication and transparency
- Manage and mentor a small team
- Act as a key Edmunds’ representative at industry events and strengthen our relationships with auto manufacturers
- Work with auto maker representatives to secure first-access to exclusive opportunities with new products
- Work strategically, as required, with internal partners to represent and amplify Edmunds editorial
What You Need:
- An authentic passion for cars. You're fanatical and deeply knowledgeable about our subject matter, giving you instant credibility both internally and externally
- Automotive industry knowledge and relationships, specifically with auto manufacturers
- Minimum of 10 years of experience writing automotive content
- Experience leading a team
- Top-level writing and editorial skills with an eye toward innovative storytelling across all media
- Ability to work cross-functionally within the organization
- Coaching: A deep energy reservoir to cultivate and mentor the creative output of writers and storytellers to deliver groundbreaking journalism in our industry
- Personal reliability and integrity. Your colleagues know they can rely on you in every respect; you model this trait in all that you do
- High comfort level in taking the initiative and managing multiple projects, people and deadlines with an exacting attention to detail
- Strong understanding of audience development, performance metrics and analytics
The compensation range for this position is $116,000-$240,000 per year. The base pay will take into account internal equity as well as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
