Director, Data Services

The role starts with the current Data Services team which designs and manages the Oracle data infrastructure for Galileo. The Director will help direct and grow the team as it solves the challenges of partnering with and enabling core infrastructure and development teams in a cloud environment. The team will work with other engineering leaders to ensure they can move quickly while enhancing the stability and durability of our core data architecture. Once the charter and direction are established and the team is self-sufficient, the real role will begin as the Director begins to establish a vision for the organization as it adopts and moves to other data architectures including Postgres, DynamoDB, Redis, Snowflake, and other key data systems. The organization will partner with other key engineering leaders to ensure we utilize the right technologies in the right situations, creating systems that are highly available and reliable as we begin to redesign our data architecture.  

• Oversee a team of data experts, including guiding operational and development efforts
• Partner with others in engineering, and experts in product strategy, to design and build a cutting-edge data architecture
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to drive innovation in Galileo’s core payments, data, and analytics offerings
• Be part of re-designing our data platform across newer, more performant, and cost efficient technologies 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from a fully-accredited college or university
• Experience leading mission-critical operational teams that are fundamental to your organization’s delivery
• Deep understanding of relational database technology, preferably Oracle and AWS’s RDS service
• Broad experience with modern, cloud-based data technologies including relational data services, NoSQL database systems, and streaming data tooling

• Expertise in analytical platform tooling and development
• Experience in developing and setting vision for a large organization, especially partnering with and supporting other organization to enable and unblock them 

• Experience in the payments industry
• Experience growing small teams in a fast paced environment (i.e. - start-up experience)
