Responsibilities:

The Reference and Market Data Team is responsible for ensuring the reference and market data needs of BlackRock and the clients of BlackRock Solutions are fulfilled with accurate, complete and timely data.

As Data Steward Domain Lead on the Reference and Market Data Team, you will manage a team of highly skilled business analysts and matter professionals to drive BlackRock's data strategy across respective domain. The data needs across the industry is continuously evolving and we are finding new ways to improve this strategic asset. The Data Steward team would play a big role in how to best demonstrate this strategic asset to improve the returns for the firm as well as differentiate our offering as a provider of an asset management solution. The Data Steward Domain Lead will be responsible for defining our certified data assets across respective domain, along with a robust governance for those datasets that include but not limited to data quality, entitlement, metadata and lineage. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
  • Develop strong trusted advisor relationships with key partners
  • Work closely with data customers to stay abreast of new and evolving business requirements and market trends to align priorities with business needs
  • Advise and influence partners on key business decisions and change efforts
  • Active engagement with key product partners to ensure client data experience is aligned and exceeding expectations
  • Build and maintain robust relationships with our data vendors & core internal development partners to achieve a comprehensive, quality data offering
  • Provide data solutions, insights and expertise in response to changing business needs, market events, regulatory change and new financial products.
  • Build forward-looking product visions and implementation plans
  • Own the development of the strategy/roadmap ensuring integration with the organization's business plans
  • Lead identification and articulation of innovation opportunities within respective domain
  • Adopt a technology first attitude and demonstrate technology to innovate and deliver high quality data solutions through robust storage, maintenance, management and delivery methods.
  • Identify major issues, deficiencies and meaningful opportunities, design solutions, and quantify potential benefit / impact across work-stream
  • Monitor industry trends and share insightful reports and analysis with broader team and senior management to help influence and define organizational strategy
  • Maintain overall accountability for implementing the roadmap of initiatives
  • Provide oversight and input into enterprise initiatives that impact customer experience
  • Lead strategic review of solution development; provide clear and timely feedback to ensure experiences, technology and marketing solutions are delivered on-strategy
  • Lead or participate in project post-mortems to capture key findings and areas of improvement as appropriate
  • Define policies and standards in respective data domain and work with partners to implement cross organization support
  • Own the data quality program to craft a minimum set of rules to drive maximum confidence in our datasets while providing complete transparency to the end-consumer. Our datasets are used for critical operational processes and data certification is a key requirement to establish trust.
  • The domain lead will setup the vital governance associated with the domain. Governance includes but not limited to data quality, vendor score cards, entitlements management, metadata management and lineage for the respective domain.


This function will expose the Data Steward to a wide range of BlackRock's and BlackRock Solutions' tools and businesses and will require him/her to work closely with internal clients such as portfolio management, account management, operations, financial modeling, regulatory and portfolio compliance, BlackRock Solutions as well as external users of security data. The critical responsibilities of this position are at the core of the Reference and Market Data Team's objective of providing timely, accurate and complete data.

Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Candidate must possess and demonstrate working knowledge of financial markets and general knowledge of the entire investment landscape.
  • Comfort with Front-Office Data and Technology. Prior experience functioning in roles and functions that are highly data-driven and that required understanding of data models and flows, and technology architecture as related to business requirements
  • Candidate is encouraged to think critically about sophisticated business challenges and possess strong problem solving skills in order to deliver holistic solutions.
  • Candidate must have passion for, and comfort with, working in a high pressure and fast pace environment while maintaining quality and the integrity of investment data.
  • Candidate must be able to work in both an entrepreneurial and team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to enable clear articulation while working with internal and external clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrate project management experience.
  • Excellent relationship management, team leadership, influencing skills
  • Significant experience (15+ years) in the financial services realm.
  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Business or Computer Science field.
  • Experience in Agile based programs

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $199,500 - $240,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

Our hybrid work model
