We currently seek a Director Diagnostics Software to join our Software Applications, Instrumentation team in Lake Forest, California. We are seeking a very experienced and highly motivated Director of Diagnostics Software to lead software development teams. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leading both Windows and embedded software development for medical devices and a consistent track record of leading large software development teams. As a Director Diagnostics Software, you will be responsible for developing and implementing software strategies, leading the software development lifecycle, and ensuring the software development team delivers high-quality software on time and within budget for a products in the Opthalmic diagnostics target market. In this role, a typical day will include:

• Leading the software development lifecycle for diagnostics products, including requirements definition, design, development, testing, and maintenance.
• Establishing software development strategies, policies, and procedures that ensure software development meets quality, regulatory, and business objectives.
• Leading and developing a team of software developers, providing guidance and direction on software development projects.
• Leading software risk management and writing software requirements to ensure our products are safe for use on millions of patients and in compliance with regulations worldwide.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineering, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, clinical, and project management to ensure seamless integration of software with hardware and other components of the medical device.
• Ensuring that software development adheres to applicable regulatory standards and guidelines, including FDA regulations.
• Developing and maintaining a software development budget, track expenses, and report progress to senior management and project management.
• Evaluating and implementing new software development tools and technologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the software development process.
• Providing guidance and mentorship to team members, helping them to grow their technical skills and advance their careers, helping to develop a strong bench of technical talent.
• Setting performance expectations and provide regular feedback to team members on their progress toward meeting those expectations.
• Creating and maintaining a positive team culture, promoting collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Identifying and addressing skill gaps within the team, providing training or professional development opportunities as needed.
• Fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement, encouraging team members to stay up-to-date with new technologies and standard methodologies.
• Providing technical guidance and support to team members, helping them to solve complex technical problems.
• Leading by example, demonstrating a strong work ethic, a commitment to quality, and a passion for innovation.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
• 10 Years of Relevant Experience

Preferred Qualifications/skills Experience:

• Extensive experience in Windows and embedded software development, including proven experience in a software leadership or management role.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage numerous projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical partners.
• Strong knowledge and experience with software development methodologies, including Agile/Scrum and Waterfall.
• Experience developing software for safety critical medical devices, with advanced level knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and guidelines, including IEC 62304, TIR 45, ISO 14971 and ISO 13485.
• Extensive experience authoring and leading others in authoring of software documentation related deliverables, particularly with respect to requirements, software risk management, architecture/design and traceability.
• Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members to achieve their full potential.
• Experience with software development tools and technologies, such as C#, WPF, .NET, C++, Python, and embedded systems.
• Experience with object-oriented design and implementation in both C# and C++.
• Experience in applying SOLID design principles in creating robust and maintainable designs.
• Experience in using static analysis, unit testing and other tools/methods to produce high quality.
• Communication experience using TCP/IP and USB.
• Knowledge of Cybersecurity, Cloud connectivity, Identity & Access Management, Public Key Infrastructure, and TLS Encryption.
• Experience using Git and Azure DevOps.
