About This Job
The main purpose of this job is to develop, implement and measure progress towards an enterprise data strategy. This role will oversee data modernization efforts that sets the foundation for people, process, and tools to be successful long-term in the analytic space. This includes delivering value to line of business data project(s) & task(s) needs as well as activating Data Governance for the enterprise.
Essential Functions
- Serve as the corporate leader of data-driven insights that help support strategic and tactical business opportunities. Champions data as a strategic asset at the most senior levels of the Bank
- Organize and lead the data and analytics center of excellence, and constantly improve the organization's capacity to develop insights with advanced analytics. Define members' responsibilities and accountabilities for both.
- Assume authority, responsibility, and accountability for exploiting the value of enterprise information assets, and of the analytics used to generate insights for decision making
- Collaborate with business executives to establish the vision for managing data as a business asset and to use data research and analytics to maximize the return on data assets
- Oversee data and analytics strategy practices
- Institute an enterprise operating model that is consistent with the capabilities and competencies required to execute the data strategy
- Foster the creation of a data-driven culture, related competencies and data literacy across the enterprise
- Guide research, strategy creation and development of new data products or services to expand markets, monetize data (directly and indirectly) and grow company revenue
- Provide strategic direction, setting priorities and sponsorship for resource allocation (people and budget)
- Chair and lead administration of the Data Steering Committee
- Oversee regulatory and compliance programs related to data and analytics assets
- Organize and guide data governance program to provide executive sponsorship for oversight of policy creation and compliance
- Lead, mentor and motivate team members to implement the department strategy and manage department workflow with guidance on departmental projects/issues, and provide coaching and development opportunities appropriate to each direct report's individual needs
- Perform all necessary management functions, including recruiting, hiring, evaluations, annual increase allocations and disciplinary action as required
- Communicate decisions, priorities and relevant information to team members effectively
- Support budget management, planning and expenditure
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required
- Strong knowledge of Data Governance regulatory requirements
- Strong knowledge of data warehouse environments such as Teradata, SQL Server, Snowflake, AWS, or similar
- Strong knowledge of the analytics and data field, including knowledge of best practices
- Ability to align and effectively communicate data strategy to overall corporate/enterprise strategy
- Ability to develop and manage relationships with a wide variety of business units/departments
- Ability to create a high performing team and successfully lead initiatives, projects and activities that support departmental and organizational goals
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the organization and interact/influence/negotiate effectively at all levels of management and peers
- Ability to think critically, solve problems, make decisions and build trust across the company and effectively envision, develop, and implement new strategies to address competitive complex business issues
- Expert general management knowledge and skills, such as departmental goal setting and planning, budgeting and personnel administration
- Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
- Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook & Teams
Education & Experience
- Master's degree in business, analytics, data science, computer science, information systems or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- 15+ years analytics, data science, risk and/or business management experience required
- 10+ years leadership experience leading cross-functional teams and enterprise wide programs required
- Experience with analytic tools such as: Power BI, Tableau, SAS, SPSS, Databricks, Business Objects or similar tool required
- Experience in integrating complex, cross-corporate processes and information strategies, and/or designing strategic metrics and scorecards required
- Previous experience with business intelligence, data warehousing, and/or data visualization platforms required
- Experience designing, managing and continually improving business processes required
- Experience developing organizational policies and procedures and implementing by building consensus and stakeholder commitment required
