Job Summary

The Director of Entertainment Technical will oversee and support the entertainment technical operations onboard vessels by providing the needed technical support for production shows, artists and musician performances, TV and movie broadcasts, special events and enrichment presentations. This includes finding competent technicians to operate all the needed systems and functions. The Director will work closely with the VP of Entertainment in analyzing the operations budget to determine strategies for using technology, coordinating equipment purchases and maintenance, and interpreting project briefs to identify the operations technical needs and project specifications.

Essential Job Duties

  • Audio and visual production process (supporting design and set-up for operating sound, lighting and video equipment for all shows and events).
  • Provide accurate equipment costs for onboard entertainment technical operational and maintenance (including setup time estimates).
  • Source, budget, and work directly with movie and satellite TV providers.
  • Support and maintain all entertainment technical equipment onboard (audio, lighting, video walls, microphones, amplifiers, backline, Broadcast Center, etc.)
  • When needed, source and work directly with contracted entertainment technical providers.

Work Environment

Works in a typical office environment with quiet-to-moderate noise generated by computer printer, fax machine and light traffic. Traveling is required to vessels approximately two to three months per year to support onboard entertainment operations (i.e., implementing new production shows, checking entertainment equipment, supporting/training technicians, etc.).

Physical Demands

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching. May require lifting or pushing up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone, and other office equipment.

Expected Hours of Work

The position is full-time and frequently requires working additional time outside of normal business hours.

Requirements

Experience: 7+ years' experience in the cruise industry managing entertainment technical operations. Hands-on experience operating sound and lighting consoles for production shows. Knowledge/familiarity with cruise industry broadcast centers.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
  • General knowledge in state-of-the-art entertainment technical equipment and systems.
  • Candidate should have a developed knowledge of entertainment operations and its administration, international travel logistics, maritime procedures, expense and cost-saving management, advanced research and investigative abilities, and managerial troubleshooting.
  • Crisis communication experience and ability to operate calmly in high pressure and/or short-deadline situations.
  • Strong understanding of brand management and executing projects to guidelines.
  • Must be highly detailed-oriented with strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Team player with a positive attitude who works well cross-functionally.
  • Resourceful, creative self-starter who takes initiative to learn processes and get things done with little supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment where strategic brand-building efforts are priority - start-up experience a plus.
