Position OverviewThe Director will be part of BSR’s global EIJ area of expertise and work closely with the team to develop business opportunities and deliver consulting and grant-funded projects that provide high value to BSR members as well as non-member companies and other partners interested in advancing their DEI strategies to create equitable and inclusive business ecosystems. The Director will work closely with the EIJ team and other Directors in developing thought leadership, refining strategy, and will drive implementation of project-related work.
- Consulting Services and Project Directorship: The Director will play a leading role in delivering consulting services to member and non-member companies in the industries cited above. The Director will provide oversight—and often hands-on support—for the delivery of best-in-class consulting services to companies. The Director will typically oversee 7-10 ongoing projects at any one time, working actively with project teams, and providing thought partnership to project managers.Â
- Business Development and Member Engagement: The Director will be responsible for recruiting new member companies, deepening relationships with business leaders in member companies, and developing new business opportunities across the region. The Director will be responsible for driving revenue generation in partnership with BSR’s other global area of expertise teams. The Director will draw from an established set of BSR tools and cases to facilitate these business development activities.
- External Representation: The Director will represent BSR to external audiences in by presenting at relevant industry conferences; demonstrating thought leadership through writing and publishing blogs, reports, etc.; forming beneficial external relationships and partnerships; and proactively working to create opportunities to raise the profile of BSR more broadly.Â
- Strategy and Relationship Development: The Director will contribute to creation BSR’s consulting offerings and tools, research, thought leadership, and external engagement, as well as supporting the development of the BSR Corporate Social Justice Institute, an emergent project under the EIJ Area of Expertise. Additionally, the Director will also be responsible for building/maintaining relationships with the broader Equity & Inclusion and Social Justice communities and developing BSR’s network in these areas.
At BSR we have implemented a transparent total compensation framework with an emphasis on internal equity. In order to maintain our equity our hiring range/rate will be $110,000-$158,000 plus a target bonus for this position. Â Location adjustment will apply if successful candidates resides in New York or San Francisco.
Qualifications- Possess a practical and conceptual understanding of Social Justice issues and ability to effectively engage with stakeholders belonging to underrepresented and/or historically marginalized groups.
- Track record of success in business development, client/relationship management, and exercising influence with senior leaders.Â
- Significant business, consulting or significant leadership experience required to perform the key functions of a consulting leader, including developing and maintaining senior-level client relationships; pursuing and creating business opportunities; and overseeing multiple projects under tight deadlines.Â
- Significant experience leading DEI strategy development and applying an equity lens – including gender, racial and/or social equity more broadly -- to our work companies.
- Experienced in working with multinational companies and organizations.
- Knowledge and experience related to business processes such as strategic planning, organizational development, training programs, performance management, change management, etc.Â
- Proven leadership and people skills, including a demonstrated ability to mentor other team members to improve skills and effectiveness.Â
- Outstanding verbal, written, and facilitation skills.Â
- Fluency in English required, additional language skills a strong plus.
- Willingness to undertake up to 15% business travel post COVID.
- Collaborative mindset and the intellectual agility to work with companies across various industries, and with colleagues who are expert on other sustainability issues.
