A Brief Overview
The Director reports to the Senior Director of Executive Communications and Stakeholder Engagement and is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of executive communications for the adult hospital CEO and will support other executive leaders at Stanford Medicine in creating engaging, relevant, and impactful content across various channels

What you will do
- Play an integral role as senior leader of the Stanford Medicine communications team in developing and executing integrated campaigns that address our diverse stakeholder groups. Ensure that strategy reflects the priorities and goals of our institution and senior leadership.
- Lead all communications for the CEO of Stanford Health Care, including speechwriting, op-eds, presentations, and other materials (e.g., videos) that convey the CEO's vision, strategy, and thought leadership. Oversee the work of a manager-level direct report, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management in supporting the activities above.
- Working with the Senior Director of Executive Communications, support the development of high stakes messaging and materials addressing issues that pose a reputational opportunity or risk to the organization (e.g., responding to controversial social issues, operational crises, etc.).
- Establish and foster relationships with key Stanford Medicine leaders. Develop programs and projects (e.g., CMO newsletter) that support their priorities while promoting the overarching vision and values of Stanford Medicine.
- Support the development of new communications programs that involve our leaders in enhancing stakeholder engagement.
- Independently manage recurring digital projects, such as producing a podcast hosted by the Dean of Stanford School of Medicine and overseeing a LinkedIn newsletter bylined by the Dean.
- Provide ongoing counsel to our social media manager, ensuring that executive communications strategies align with social media strategies. This includes periodically reviewing high-stakes content planned for our social media accounts.
- Functional Team Management: Oversee executive communications manager for the School of Medicine.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferably in communications, journalism or English.
Experience Qualifications
- At least ten (10) years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Three (3) years supervisory experience, preferably of multi-person teams.
- Significant experience directing and managing vendors and agencies.
- Proven track record in using analytics to drive better decision making and strategy
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skill in developing and implementing strategic communications plans across a highly matrixed organization and in alignment with the goals of the organization. Personal track record providing strategic and tactical communications support to C-level executives.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities, remaining organized and disciplined in a complex, fast-paced, and dynamic environment. Demonstrated program development and execution.
- Experience with multiple and diverse communications channels, including traditional and emerging, in order to broaden the reach of the organization.
- Familiarity with health care delivery system business and operating practices.
- Strong personal impact with the ability to build relationships and credibility. Ability to develop and effectively manage strong working relationships with senior executives and interact with individuals across functions and at all levels of an organization.
- Experience effectively managing teams, using influence and inspiration to achieve desired results.
- Exceptional written, presentation and verbal communications skills. Experience developing content for a broad audience base.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $72.49 - $96.06 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
